hi
i'm booked to be induced tomorrow afternoon (was due on wed 6th) with my first child. am really, really getting nervous now about everything- from it being too quick and painful and overwhelming me to being too long and not working and having to have a c-sec.

i am now almost desperate to see my baby but have no idea how i'm going to get any sleep tonight! i also have had a really bad cough since xmas and have hurt my back
which i'm hoping won't cause any further problem.

any good vibes from you lovely mumsnetters would be much appreciated

Good Luck annabeau - you're baby will be here soon and you will look back on these worries as a dim and distant memory.

I was induced with my DD - the MW puts some gel up your fanjo and you all wait for things to kick off. This sort of induction isn't any faster or more painfaul than normal - things proceed normally (and if you are overdue hopefully baby will decide not to faff about). At the hospital I had this procedure several times over a few days (but I was being induced early) and I remember it as a very relaxing serene time.

If you go on to have a syntocin (sp?) drip then things may start moving more quickly, and you might like to take up the offer of an epidural if you are offered on - but that will be up to you.

Either way I'm sure you and annababe will be fine and dandy.

I'm genuinely really excited for you and look forward to reading your birth story.

Good luck annabeau. My friend was induced three weeks early due to spd. After nothing happening with gels and sweeps they broke her waters. She had an epidural after 4 hours of established labour and went on to have a vaginal delivery with no intervention. So it can be just as routine as a 'spontaneous' labour.

I had was induced by drip after the gel didn't work and went for an epidural early on as I couldn't be mobile.

Whole thing over and done with in less than 7 hours with a couple of tears but no intervention.

Not the birth I would have chosen but it went really well and I still felt it was me that did all the work despite the epidural.

Good luck. Induced births can go well.

Good luck... It'll all be fine!

I've been induced with 2 out of 3 of my births, and both have been fine. I was holding my 3rd baby a mere 5hrs after my induction, and the pain was fine, just gas and air

mumandlovingit · 17/01/2010 08:16

good luck with tomorrow. im sure everything will be fine.

im due to be induced or c section when i get to 37 weeks. its hard to ignore all the scare stories but please be reassured, after hearing so many bad stories ive looked into it all early knowing it will happen and ive heard so many good, nice stories of relaxing normal natural births through induction and c section it isnt so scary anymore.

there is a general consensus through people ive spoken to of having an epidural if you have the drip but it is your choice.please talk to the midwives tomorrow and give them a general birthing plan you want to try to achieve/ask them how long they will leave the gel etc without giving you the drip or breaking waters etc.it will help you feel more in control if you know what is happening.

again, good luck and congratulations xx

Hi annabeau

Just wanted to add my good luck wishes as well. We are in a very similar situation as I'm booked in for induction on Wednesday with my first, and my due date was also the 6th Jan

I'm a bit scared too because of the unknown factor, but I suppose that is no different from the unknown natural labour! And also it means that we will very soon have our babies in our arms

I'm sure everything will go well for you & I look forward to hearing your birth story!

xx

Just wanted to say good luck too, but also be warned that although you may be going in tomorrow for induction, you may not actually get induced tomorrow, so don't get your hopes up too much.

I went in on Thursday 7th Jan for an induction, only to be told to go home and come back on the Friday as they were busy. I did that and still they didn't do anything until the Sunday when they gave me a propess pessary which didn't work. Monday they gave me another which again didn't work, and Tuesday they finally decided to break my waters, then gave me an hour for things to start naturally, and then when they didn't they put me on a drip. Eight hours or so later my son made his apperance.
