Does bad positioning of baby always result in complicated birth?

Evening,

Im 38+1 wks and doing everything i can to help move this baby in to a better position (at the moment shes back to back).

All the stories i hear are pretty awful, can anyone tell a good experience please!

Ive had 2 natural deliveries with no pain relief before so i know just how bloody painful childbirth is but have heard back to back is a hell of alot worse!
How will i cope!

Thanks

My DD2 was back to back with me and I had a pretty stress free birth. Was 8cm dilated when I got to hosp and she was born about 2hrs later with only gas&air for pain relief. Did feel more uncomfortable lying down(had to be monitored as she pooed before birth!), was much more comfortable on all fours (my natural labour position of choice anyway from prev experience)and pain was definitley more intense in my back but all in all a pretty good delivery. I bled a fair bit afterwards and they had trouble stopping that but absolutely nothing to do with her position.

I also did some visualisation things as I'd gone to a hypnotherapy course while I was pregnant - was not mad about it but willing to give anything a go to help with pain.

It can be more painful/different pain but try not to go into it with that mindset - you CAN have the birth you'd like and if it's too much then its ok to ask for help.

Hope all goes well for you

Hi,

My first was back to back. I won't lie, it was very hard for all to get her out! I had to have everything, and I am quite high tolerant of pain. After 3 episiotomies, and forceps, she finally came out ( she was stuck!). I lost a lot of blood but thankfully no transfusion. I say now, if she wasn't back to back I could have done it without any pain meds. Well I'm due anyday for my second baby so we'll see if I'm right lol. But anyway, back to back is hard but everyone is different. Hopefully yours won't be as hard as mine was.

I had a back-to-back labour with DS and it was a LOOONG labour. It was v painful before the labour began (baby causing great pain) and I had a third degree tear but as others have stated, it can also be stress free.

I lost a lot of blood. Managed on gas and air for most of the labour, but had a shot of morphine near the end.

I'm just unlucky!lol

Good luck and hope it's a stress free one for you.

My ds and dd2 were both posterior at the onset of labour... both turned during. Both were quick, easy births, only tens and a bit of G&A for pain, with no stiyches.
ds (2hr50min active labour)14 days overdue 10lb6oz,
dd2 (1hr30min active labour)2 days overdue 9lb.
dd1 was my hardest birth and smallest baby, ventouse, episiotomy etc and she was not posterior! (3 days overdue, 8lb4oz)

DS1 was back to back... I had to be induced, got a fantastic epidural, there were problems with his birth, but that was more the cord round his neck than his possition.

DS2 also back to back, went in at 11.30pm, had him at 2.30am with just gas & air. There was a lot of back pain, but managable, and needed no stitches. Was back home for 9am.

I guess it's just a case of wait and see!

Hi There
Have you seen this website-

I use lots of these techniques as a doula and found them very effective.

DS was back to back - undiagnosed. He took epi and salad server forceps to come out. Dds shot out 'like a pat of butter' according to dh...thanks for that mate! Def more difficult nd 'intervention-ed'.

I have had 2 back to back but no complications either time

DS1 was back to back, labour was very long but may well have been anyway. DS2 was also long but correct way round. Are you spending lots of time leaning forwards? Sitting on a gym ball might help as might sleeping on your left side. baby might turn in labour. My DS3 did
