Reassurance about movements again please (sorry sorry paranoid first timer!)

First pregnancy ended in MMC at 10 weeks so this pregnancy have been a bit paranoid through a lot of it.

Am 37 weeks today and in the last couple of days the movements have got a lot more gentle but am still defo having them (just not the big stomach churning lurches anymore) so I am assuming she is okay. The head went completely engaged this week too so I guess the poor love is jammed in and doesn't really have any room to move.

It is okay isnt it if the movements aren't as big as before- like normal for my stage of pregnancy? So long as am still getting lots of movements I mean? I will obviously phone the labour ward if really worried but am getting a bit embarrased now as have already been twice for monitoring (once for severe abdo pain and reduced movement which turned out to be a stitch from me walking too much and bub having a nap!).

Ho hum will be glad when she is out and the paranoia really begins, is she eating, breathing, pooing okay- etc etc!

better to ask than not, I always think.

did anyone suggest to you a large glass of something cold/sweet (ice cream, say), and a quiet lie-down immediately afterwards? you may get some more vigorous movements then.

sorry I can't help more than that. 9 months of sleep deprivation later, I can barely remember that I ever was pg [yawn]

Thandeka, Congrats on your pg. It sounds very normal to me. You are right that towards the end of the pg, the baby doesn't have a lot of room to move so the movements do change from the lurching somersault type to more nudge like ones.

But, if you are at all anxious, I would ring your midwife. Don't worry about looking like a paranoid first timer (and FWIW I was as paranoid with my 4th as with my 1st and that without any mc or problems that might have given me a good reason for worrying).

Thanks for all the reassurance.

My baby wake up call is now half a bottle of lucozade followed by a warm bath. Did the trick- she shifted about sufficiently for me to be reassured! She plays tricks on me that one!

Yes they definately run out of room last 3 weeks or so, but you should still feel movements, go in and get checked out if there is a sudden reduction in movements ie you usually feel them at certain times and it doesn't happen, and you've tried the cold/hot/sweet/sour test & sat down for 1/2 hr. More than likely yo'll get into hosp to be monitored and the baby'll dance! but they're used to it and better to get it checked out and be safe.
