Birth Medical History ?

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but I am really confused. I am expecting DC2 in and around 7 weeks time, and really want another natural/water birth.

Q; When you give birth, does the present Midwife keep a record of the birth, ie any medical interventions etc ?

If so, where would I find this record ?

I had my DS1 6.5 years ago, and as far as I remember it was a ' normal ' birth... although, now I am wondering, because my waters released 24 hours before hand, and I remember being put on a ' drip ' to get things going the following early evening... I remember asking what it was because I was concerned about the pain of being induced, I remember the midwife telling me it was just ' water '!

Does this sound correct ?

Things did get going at 12.30am and my DS1 was born 3.5 hours later.... but was this me or drugs ??

For all these years I've been sure I had a normal straight forward birth.....

You can request your records from the previous birth and they will show what it was they gave you via drip. Have a look on your hospital's website and they will tell you how to go about requesting them (there is a fee)

The drip could have been fluid if you were dehydrated, or an anti-biotic if they thought you were at risk of infection because you waters had broken 24 hours previously, or a drug for pain relief, or it could have been a drug for induction (which would be my guess if they wanted to get things going)

Whatever it was, the MW was lieing and it wouldn't have just been water.

I think she said something about dehydration....

it could have been water for hydration- usually with a tiny bit of salt or sugar to help it get into your body.
