HELP - kickstarting labour?

I'm due for a sweep next week; am actually really keen for it because I'd rather try anything than be put on a drip and have those awful painful contractions, but is there anything else I can try in the meantime?

I've been trying walking, bouncing on the ball, sex, eating pineapple and curries, clary sage oil in the bath... Been drinking bucketloads of raspberry leaf tea, too, but my understanding is that it's just good for your uterus rather than something to kick start labour... Has anyone done anything that has actually worked? I am so ready to have my baby now!

Nothing worked for me until I had the sweep. I was 7 days overdue when I had the sweep and then labour started late the following evening. Good luck, hope you sweep works because i am sure you are very bored of waiting now!

I haven't actually tried this but my gynae told us that getting the father to suck on your nipples is very helpful.

Actually, I don't suppose it has to be the father

Following advice from my sister, I have just scrubbed the hall and kitchen floors on my hands and knees. Probably a load of old nonsense but apparently its getting down low or the movement or something... so am sitting here waiting for something to happen!!

wow, let me know if scrubbing the floor works, but I can't imagine wanting to do housework right now!

I feel your pain as I'm trying everything too!! This snow has meant me cleaning my hall and kitchen floors with a rag on all foors rather than a mop about 10 times a day!!

41 weeks today, MW could not do a sweep as cervix not having any of it, booked for induction on tues. Same with dd, was due on a thurs, went for induction at 40+12 not born until 40+15 . I cried all the way home in frustration today.

My ds was born last week and I was totally fed up at 39 weeks because he was op and I has terrible back ache. I tried everything youmentioned above, but the think I think orked was pumping in th evenings. I started using my breastpump at 39 weeks exactly and went into labour 2 days later. It releases oxtocin which induces labour.

Good luck with the birth. I have to say the raspberry leaf tea should hopefully make your second stage much quicker. I was only puhing for 50 minutes!
