littledawley · 13/01/2010 15:30

Er, no... Who did???

mama2moo · 13/01/2010 15:30

No, only if you have stitches and they stick there finger up there to make sure they havent stitched that up

Why do you ask?

up your bum? no.

what are they looking for??? because i suspect i know what they'll find...

spongebrainbigpants · 13/01/2010 15:31

Why would you?

I'd be a bit concerned that they didn't know which hole a baby came out of if they did that!

purpleduck · 13/01/2010 15:31

NO!!!!!

lillypie · 13/01/2010 15:35

Perhaps her perineum was being examined? That is close enough to the bum to almost be bum.

liahgenisuptheduff · 13/01/2010 16:47

after the baby is born it is completely realistic that she might have been examined in the rectum if she has had stitches, or if she is about to have stitches.

Also they sometimes give yu a suppository for longer pain relief after the birth.

wb · 13/01/2010 16:57

I was - due to a nasty tear. Sometimes they also check if they think you may have a fistula.

Frankly I was beyond dignity or caring...

yojojo · 13/01/2010 22:18

i do vaguely remember the midwife saying she would have to put a finger up there to check for any tears i had had a lot of pain relief though and can't really remember properly but i'm sure it happened....

yojojo · 13/01/2010 22:18

that was after labour though

GlastonburyGoddess · 13/01/2010 22:21

PRs are done to assess how bad a tear is

PMSL pregnantpeppa!!

Wonderstuff · 14/01/2010 08:21

LOL pregnantpeppa I was, because I had an internal tear and they needed to make sure it hadn't gone all the way through they did let me get another hit of G&A during the examination!
at the idea they might accidently stich up your rectum!! surely not??

izzybiz · 14/01/2010 08:25

I was when I had Ds1, I was 16, just given birth and the MW didn't even warn me!

You can guess what I said to her!
She told me it was because I had a tear, and they have to check it hasn't gone all the way through....

I wasn't with the next 2 but didn't tear with those.

mama2moo · 15/01/2010 19:20

Im sure I remember them sticking a tampon thing up there before they stitch??

I hope I tear this time

Wonderstuff · 15/01/2010 21:11

Gosh I don't remember that, but thankfully I was still in a bit of a pethidine haze. I do remember that I didn't realise the area stitched would swell (dur) and was genuinly concerned that my fanny had prolapsed

narmada · 15/01/2010 22:59

PMSL at the wanting another morphine suppository ...I think it is testimony to the general fabulousness and pragmatism of mums that we wouldn't blink twice at a torpedo tablet up the rear if it means post birth pain is fixed.
I definitely remember being rectally examined after my induced ventouse experience. Like a PP, I couldn't have cared less... really.

I remember very clearly that the obstetrician said that that the reason for the examination was to make sure they hadn't stitched me up a bit more thoroughly than intended. Even having just given birth I remember thinking, "are you kidding, you are kidding right??" surely But no, I don't think he was. I will be doing perineal massage with olive oil very intensively before my next DC is born ...

Wonderstuff · 15/01/2010 23:09

No! I am expecting number 2 and was very chilled out about the whole birth thing, but the thought that someone could accidently sew through to your rectum makes me feel very very scared.
BTW my perinium stayed intact, but dd came out like superman and ripped the inside of my 'gina

PictureThis · 15/01/2010 23:11

PR examinations used to be performed in some hospitals in place of vaginal examinations and the cervix would be felt through the bowel. It was done to minimise risk of vaginal infection or passing infection on to the baby. God only knows how they could possibly tell what was going on by doing it this way. I have to add that i have never encountered this practice myself just heard about it from a tutor when I did my training (a long time ago)

PureAsTheColdDrivenSnow · 15/01/2010 23:13

No!
