planned section no 2., 2 nights then home.

Fanfare · 08/01/2010 16:37

Out in 24 hours after both my electives.

lanismum · 08/01/2010 17:30

I had an elective 6 months ago, had ds at 9.40am on the monday, and was home by 5pm on the tuesday.

Had a c section 4 months ago. Stayed in for 3 nights. I had been hearing same thing as you. I was appalled as I wanted time in hospital to recover.

I had a section on new years eve and only stayed 2 nights! I was shocked when they said i was going home, but also happy as i was really missing DD1 and DH. So i went and luckily i have been ok. With DD1 i was kept in for 4 nights and needed it! I feel it was a little early to be let out this time but like i said, DD1 was at home and missing me so i went.

24 hours after is crazy imo! I wasn't even on my feet properly 24 hours after mine!

3 nights each - but some time ago. Slightly shocked to hear tales of stitches etc being taken out at home.

Tip from my sister who likes hospitals - if you want to stay in, whatever birth method, you say 'I'd really like to bf, just can't seem to get hang of it, if only I could speak to the MW again tomorrow etc,' - she managed to stay in 3 nights after a completely straightforward delivery!!

Had ds 3 on mon out on wed morning. (6 months ago) I wanted to go they didn't kick me out and seemed quite surprised I wanted to go so soon.

(I wanted to see ds 1 + 2 and save them from MIL!)

Section no.2, 6 months ago. 1st was emcs, 2nd was elcs. I stayed in 3 nights (fri, sat, sun)

littlemisslozza · 08/01/2010 18:44

Had DS2 in August. He was born on the Friday morning and we went home on the Tuesday afternoon, so 4 nights. No pressure to leave even though they were very busy.

mcflumpy · 08/01/2010 19:46

Had section 7 months ago and stayed 4 nights but DD did lose more than 10% weight

ManyMonkeys · 08/01/2010 20:58

24 hours! omg!! i thought 2 nights was bad! I dont really like hospitals that much, and altho im not keen to stay in, i have 3 other little ones at home (well, a 9yo, an almost 7yo, and a 4yo) and im on my own, my mums going to help out as much she can bless her, but i really dont think i will be ready to come home and look after 4 by myself 24 hours/2 days later!! Eek should i be worried???

I had emerg section with first and am choosing elective for second in few weeks.
I had to stay for 5 nights (wasnt in this country though) but would be glad to be home after 2 with this one as i feel u would get more help with stuff at home than u do in hospital, ie showering, getting dressed. And help with new baby most of all as i found i really struggled in the early days sitting up and getting in and out of the bed to attend to my son with no one there to help, so would have been better at home.

thedollshouse · 08/01/2010 22:46

I stayed in 48 hours but the policy was 3 nights. I told them that I discharge myself if they didn't let me go home. I'm pleased to see that hospitals are becoming more flexible on this I was definitely well enough to be discharged after 24 hours.

Fanfare · 08/01/2010 22:56

Sorry ManyMonkeys, I didn't mean to worry you re: 24 hours. It seems to very much depend on your hospital's policy (I'm in Essex [a good hospital, I should add, despite their discharge time!!]). Maybe your midwife can give you a better idea what to expect at your local hospital? And as Bellissima suggests, if you wish to extend your stay you can ask for extra help, be it help with feeding or pain control (you can only be given diamorphine for more severe pain if you stay in hospital, for example).

humptynumpty · 08/01/2010 22:58

dd, was in for 5 days - standard practice in that hospital. ds, different hospital, was out on 3rd day. Hospital policy to have catheter in for 24 hours, so leaving was not an option iyswim.
With dd, she was born at 7.30pm, and i was told that i had to get out of bed and pee in toilet during the night, so technically i guess i could have left, but was happy to stay in.
am totally at leaving same day!

MrsMattie · 09/01/2010 01:35

1st section in 2005 - kept me in for 4 days
2nd section in 2008 - kept me in for precisely 48 hours. Would have loved an extra day in hospital!

ManyMonkeys · 10/01/2010 12:25

Its ok fanfare your right, its probably a good idea to have a word with my midwife and see what she thinks is likely. Its kind of tricky isnt it? I dont want to stay in as i want to be back for my other lo's but i know im not going to get much chance to sit around once im home!!
