Why can't you wear makeup in ELCS?

Vain question but just wondered why you aren't supposed to wear makeup?

Is make up a real no-no (not taking plaster here, just a bit of mascara and blusher)? Did you wear any?

My toes were painted scarlet. No-one seemed to mind. The pulse oximeter went up the big toe a bit

Can I join the vain club ? I am having my roots retouched a week before my due date as I don't want to look unkempt in the photos ! Have also packed more makeup than you can shake a stick at.. I hate having my photo taken with makeup so there is no chance of any being taken without at least foundation and mascara.

I too read the title as being about staff contracts in Early Learning

I wore make up and nail varnish for both my sections, first emergency, second planned. But I dont wear alot of make up so may not even have been noticed ]blush] . And I wa so horrified at a nurse doing a really bad shave for the emergency one, I made sure I went to the beauty place for a proper wax a few days before my second one. Very very painful, wouldnt do that again whilst pg!

Shallow here too, and proud.

I fake tanned to the hilt and wore cheek and lip stain, eyeshadow, mascara etc. All v subtle.

When my BP dropped and I started getting drowsy it was DH who told the anaesthatist (sp?) that I wanted to go to sleep.

After dd1 the photo of me zonked in ICU is not so pretty but after dd2's elective I look fab . Hair blowdried and lovely, not tied back and frazzled.

Didnt get a wink of sleep as dd2 in ICU and me beside a snorer on a ward. Managed to put on makeup the following morning to go and see dd in ICU when a midwife was free to wheel me over. Glad I did, DDs consultant was a ringer for Matthew Fox, would have been mingin without a bit of mascara, the makeup made me look just about passable. I'm sure the theatre staff were a bit , but when you're wearing a hospital gown, support socks and a colostomy bag, you've just got to perk yourself up somehow!!!

Hi,
I work in theatre occasionally and some colours of nail varnish can prevent the monitor reading pulse & oxygen as it uses an infa red light and I think dark red, blue, black etc stops the light. hth

You are all completely insane

Also, one sign of circulation breakdown is by measuring capillary refill time, which is done by pressing the nail & seeing how long it takes for the blanching to fade. Can't do that with nail varnish.

Thanks very much for the useful info.

Think I'm going to risk some mascara (waterproof for the inevitable tears!)and blusher. No to the nail varnish though.

wore mascara and eyeliner but had to remove nail/toenail polish(which i hadnt put on purposely for cs,was just there!as none were on time).

InThisSequinBraYesYouOlaJordan · 11/01/2010 13:57

Bronzer, a bit of mascara and some juicy tube.

Slicked on the usual lippy on the ward in time for the photos on the ward.

Painted my toes on second day in an attempt to prove to medical staff that I was well enough to go home - they were too busy to discharge me

Add me to the shallow list. I care not.

mathanxiety · 11/01/2010 16:38

How do you put on or remove toenail polish right before a cs? I lost sight of my toes weeks before delivery and couldn't have reached them if you paid me.

huglinson · 24/01/2010 09:54

i wore nail varnish for my emcs and elcs

for my elcs i had powder, mascara and eyeshadow on

thedollshouse · 24/01/2010 10:03

I went very pale during my elcs just before my blood pressure dropped so I think it is important that this is not disguised by bronzing powder. Mascara is a no no because you will cry and you will be so wrapped up in your new baby that you won't remember to take it off before you go to sleep.

Everyone looks crap after giving birth anyway, when mil came to visit she wanted to put lippy on me, no amount of lipstick was going to make me look half decent.

I remember seeing a photo of sil just after she had given birth and she looks like she has been to hell and back but is wearing lipstick (courtesy of mil) which just highlights how terrible the rest of her looks.

PuddingPenguin · 24/01/2010 10:21

I had a EMCS and they left my lovely orange toenails as they were. They did however scan me and said they could detect metal, it was from my bra's clasp. I said just cut if off (I'd had a full spinal block at this point and couldn't exactly sit up and take it off). They got all funny and said, oh no are you sure, etc? I asked is this an emergency, they said yes, very much so, so I replied cut my f-ing bra off then! (Was very, very fed up at this point having been in labour for 4 days).

I did however put make up and a hair clip on for my first photo with DS an hour later.

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 24/01/2010 14:06

Haven't read all of this but get your eye lashes and eyebrows died if you're bothered, and stick some vaseline on your lips. Minimal but you'll look lovely.

Now for the baby...

CantThinkofFunnyName · 26/01/2010 09:03

I specifically asked my consultant about make-up as I'd heard that you couldn't wear any but having watched daytime TV giving birth programmes saw quite a few made-up mums to be on the operating table!

I was told absolutely no problem with make-up whatsoever - after all, you want to be looking your best when giving birth but no nail varnish on the fingers. Toes were fine!

I was uber pleased with this. Turned up hair done, pedicure done, nails buffed, full face of make-up. Felt lovely!

A few hours later and horrendous experience losing consciousness several times on the table, I couldn't have given a toss! Still, have managed to look reasonably OK in the photos - just tired!

Go with what makes you happy girl.
