Colchester General and Elective csections??

Has anyone got any experience from colchester hospital and elective c sections.
Ive got my 36 weeks appointment a week monday as was gonna request one after previous emer csection.
But ive heard today about them leaving someone my dh works with until 2 days before she is due in the hope she goes naturally.
Surely that defeats the whole point of choosing an elective??

Am i gonna have a battle on my hands when i go to get what i want and to get one sooner than my due date, because i went early with my first??

I'm under Colchester too. They were lining me up for a section as BlondieBump was breech (now turned, so am going to give try and VB a go - it's my first).

From what I understand, the longer they leave it before doing the section, the more the baby's lungs have a chance to develop.

They try not to have too many electives as it looks bad for their statistics . So the best way of getting what you want is likely to be persuading them there is a medical reason to book you in, rather than you starting to labour naturally.

Can you say to them "I'm concerned that last time I had a baby, it ended up in an emergency section. I'm worried about the birth of this baby and would like to discuss my current condition and birth options with you. Bearing in mind my history I would prefer to elect for a c-section and would like to agree a date with you today for that." (and go to the appointment with a date in mind!)

If you don't get the answer you want, ask for the Supervisor of Midwives to be contacted to attend the meeting (she is there to support mothers get the birth they want) ... and don't budge from the chair until you get things resolved so you're happy! Good luck

At my 32 week appointment we had a brief discussion about the success rate of vbac and how and why it would end in c-section. So the consultant that day was aware that i was unsure, and it certainly didnt feel like elective csection wasnt an option for me.
So if i see the same consultant im not to concerned about my want for a section being dismissed just a little concerned that i wont get a choice in the date and they will make me wait right till the 40 week point, risking me going early and having to have an emerg section.

Bump was breech when i saw the consultant but i think he has moved now. Would make things easier if he hasnt.

Did u always see the same consultant??

I'm actually under 2 consultants there - it's not been the most straightforward pregnancy (previous history of MC, then swine flu at 14 weeks, and baby was transverse till 20ish weeks then footling breech till 32 wks!) and I have a thyroid problem. I see one consultant for the thyroid and another obstetric consultant straight after.

I think as long as you present your case to them positively then you have a good chance of getting what you want . Don't waffle, just clearly state that you had your first baby early and that ended in an emergency c section. You're concerned about VBAC and would prefer to elect so you and your new baby get a calmer start to things, and that given your history of going into labour before 40 weeks you'd like to agree a date of [whenever you think appropriate] for your section.

Let me know how you get on eh?
