Elective C-section and VBAC

Im sure this is a silly question but I would be interested to know the answer .. 10 weeks ago I had an emergency c-section due to a combination of severe pre-eclampsia and distress with my DD (the chord was around her neck) - my question (scary Im already planning this given it was only 10 weeks ago!) is the next time will i have to fight for an elective c section? .. I cant work out do they want you to have a v-bac and you need to fight for a c-section or is it the other way around or is it a total free choice .. I was very lucky and recovered incredibly quickly from my c-section .. although not ideal I do feel after the experience last time I would like an elective if possible - thanks for any help

I imagine experiences will differ depending on where you are. I found that they were quite keen for me to try a VBAC, but I was/am keen to try that too as I didn't find the recovery that great and I have a toddler.

I got quite frustrated by the idea that I should "try" for a VBAC (even though that was what I actually wanted) as I felt they were not particularly open to a proper discussion about my birth choices.

Congratulations on your DD

I think it depends on the hospital, the important thing for you is to be informed of the different choices and risks and be willing to stand your ground and discuss what you want. However if the last c-section was only 10 weeks ago I wouldn't start worrying about the next birth just yet!

Policies vary, but at my local hospital I was offered a section. The thing is that, having sworn that I would go for an elective next time, I ended up planning and going for a VBAC (it didn't work but never mind!). What I am saying is don't worry about this stuff now. You're still processing what happened and may feel very differently by the time there is a next time. And congratulations .

My hospital didn't automatically give me the choice I had to meet with my consultant and discuss my reasons for wanting a repeat section he then agreed it noting my reasons in my notes - he said my reason was valid or he wouldn't have agreed it (and my reason wasn't my previous section).

Ive just had DD by elective section 5 yrs after having DS by emergency section...i think it really depends on your consultant etc but i was basically told the decision was mines (in fact i was offered a d8 for elective section at my 11 wk scan app!!)

You will find that when the time comes your opinions/feelings etc might change so mayb u should cross that bridge when u come 2 it??
