Does syntocinon tire a baby out??

Just given birth to twin girls, and a midwife has said to me that my t2 may be sleepy because I was having a syntocinon infusion to kick start contractions for about 2 hours. She said this would have tired her out.

Has anyone else heard this? I have done a quick google but not come up with much so I want to be sure it is not and old wives tale or somesuch, as she is worrying me (my baby is worrying me, I mean.)

Not sure if this helps, but I had syntocin for around two hours prior to having my dd, and she ws very sleepy for around the first 12-24 hours after she was born. She made up for it the day afterwards though when she seemd to find her lungs! I had also had a shot of diamorphine though around 2 hours prior to the delivery so I think this may have had an effect also.

If they weren't concerned about her heartbeat in labour then it shouldn't have affected her. Lots of newborns are quite tired at first, especially if they are a few weeks early, they should still feed regularly to avoid becoming ill though so seek advice if this isn't the case.
