any link between period pain and childbirth?

I only recall having period pains about once oe twice in my life and they were mild then (i'm 32) I also never had any after-pains following my c-section as is currently being discussed on another thread.

I never laboured with my lo-just went straight from a failed induction to cx 40+5 (they wanted to get things moving due to blood pressure).

Is there a link between lack of period pain and an inability to labour? Is is possible that IF I do labour this time that my contractions will be weaker than other women who have sore periods?

I get horrendous period pains and I ended up with a c-section due to failed induction. I had plenty of contractions, they just didn't do anything and I didn't dilate!

Pretty much same here.I've always had painful periods and although I went into labour naturally I was in labour for 2 days and only got to 4cm's so had a C section.going for a Vbac in may so hopefully my body will know what to do this time!

I have always had hideously painful period pains & had full on contractions with both my labours. The first labour was slowed down by an epidural, but I went to 4 cm in about an hour. With DD2 I arrived at hospital at 7cm (after 1.5 hr labour) & then she was born an hour later.

don't worry about the afterpains thing - well in a sense don't worry - they get worse with every baby. i didn't get any with ds1 but boy did I feel them for ds2 and by the third . . .

really don't think there's any connection between period pain and labour cx strength. wishing you a fab vbac

I can get horrible period pains (for some reason not every month) - can't say about labour as I had sections but my experience of afterpains is not really feeling much at all after first but feeling a bit after second (ie in line with other posters - the womb seems to know better what to do and does it a bit more forcefully!).

I don't think there's a link tbh. I don't get period pains but had very effective contractions. Dilated to 10cm without event or problem. Next bit went horrifically wrong, but that was to do with dd's position and nothing else.

Interesting theory...but I don't think there is a link tbh.

Wonder if any research has been done on this subject

I have really bad period pains. I am given prescription pain killers for them and I ended having 24 hours of 5 min apart cc on ds and 10 on dd.

Only thing I can say is that having horrendous period pains that I was unable to walk with for a few years until I got used to the pain really helped me deal with labor pains.

thanks all. Yes would be interesting to know if any research has been done Jemin

I don't get period pains and gave birth naturally to both DC. Almost 8cm before going to hospital first time and 5cm second despite back to back presentation and DS arriving doing a superman impression! Also no afterpains with DD but really bad when feeding DS - just like full blown contractions. Don't worry about it, everyone is different. Hope things work out for you this time.
