ELCS tomorrow and I have a horrible cold/cough

...does it matter? Obviously coughing with the wound is going to be horrible. It's not an awful cold/cough but if my DS is anything to go by I'm only in the early stages... I'm in that sore throat, coughing a bit but can tell it's building, getting more congested stage. DS has been quite rough for nearly 10 days now, but he's definitely at the end.

And particularly I'm worried about the twins - being born early at 35+6 (medically necessary) being exposed straight away to this - DH also has it.

Actually I'm starting to get quite nervous full stop about the next 48 hours or so - just want to be on about Saturday now I think!

Poor you

Have you had your pre-op yet?

they should be able to advise you re;your cold

hope it goes well for yuo and your twins.

The twins should be fine Weegle, esp if you bf them, they'll get your antibodies.

Try not to be too nervous. Because it's a planned section all should be calm. Remember to do lots of skin to skin with the babies and just enjoy looking at them. When it comes to feeding them, don't try tandem feeding till you are home. Learn the latch of the individual babies, esp as they'll probably need more individual attention at the beginning. Of course you may have great feeders from the get go. That would be lovely.

You'll have pain killers so hopefully that will help with the coughing.

Do pop over and see us on the D'y' ever threads. We don't often bite and we love newbies.

Thank you both - I had my pre-op in 2 stages over the last fortnight. I'm now not due to see anyone until booking in to the ward tomorrow morning. Having been upright for a while though the cough seems a bit better - very congested though - will just make sure I have a really big cough before lying down I think.

Mars - thanks for the tips. I'm having to go in very open minded about feeding because I have a disability and we've had a nightmare managing me through the pregnancy with no drugs (to the point I've now been on bed rest for 4 weeks and was given loads of opiates, weaned off in the last week ready for the birth). So my current plan is to definitely aim to BF both, certainly have all the lovely skin to skin to help us bond (am worried about that) but accept I might only be able to manage a few days before being put on un-breast-feeding friendly drugs - just to enable me to walk, hold the babies etc . A lot depends on an MRI being done on Thursday to see what the damage is. But if what they suspect has happened has happened (they think 2 joints have sheered) then I will need to go on to all my old drugs immediately just to get me mobile enough to care for the babies, with a view to being operated on in about 8-12 weeks time. It's far from ideal and I'm so worried the whole thing is going to affect me bonding with them, as it's been such a tough pregnancy - MCDA twins who nearly put in an appearance at 32 wks due to TTTS, plus my physical state. But I have been gradually coming to terms about the breast-feeding and trying to look at the bigger picture that I can't be a good mother whilst immobile and demented with pain (and that goes for my 3 year old too), and if the way to deal with that is to take the meds and not breast feed then that's the way it'll have to be.

Am also worried because there's a likelihood that I will be having a GA - they couldn't feel my spine properly a week ago due to the inflammation , and if it hasn't improved in the last week then they won't risk a spinal. I'm really very worried about how the next few days are going to pan out.

I do sometimes go for a nosey over in multiple births... sure I will come over and introduce myself properly at some point...

Darling just make sure you have as much skin to skin as possible with your darlings. That'll help with the bonding. I'm sorry to hear about the drugs you may have to have. Looking forward to hearing the birth announcement and seeing you on the d'y' ever thread.

I had a horrid cough when I had my ELCS with my DTs. The nurses gave me some cough linctus every time I got pain meds, which helped a bit - the fear that I might burst my stitches coughing was the worst bit, so once I'd had the pain meds and couldn't feel it, it wasn't so bad!

Best of luck for tomorrow...it's a great day to be born (it's my birthday ). Look forward to hearing your news after Christmas.
