As in title really. Due on Christmas eve with DC2. DC1 came on his due date and I've been feeling for a couple of days that things are imminent. But this morning I have woken up with a terrible sore throat, ear ache and blocked nose. Nothing serious (e.g. nothing worth seeing a doctor for) but I really don't want to have to go through labour feeling like crap. Has anyone else had this and did it affect labour? Any chance my body will know to hold off until I kick the cold? Or any tips for a speedy recovery?

(and yes trust your body - if it's not fit to labour it'll hang on till you're better, and if you do go into labour you know it has the resources to cope...)

i had the EXACT same thing a few days before i went into labour

i was fine by the time i delivered DD (IIRC around 4 days later)

I had something similar about a week before going into labour with ds2.

OK thanks for the positive replies. Am feeling ridiculously worried about it which I know is silly. Good advice re trusting your body and good to hear from others who have had the same but recovered before giving birth. Thanks for taking time to reply.

I swear by gargling dissolvable asprin for a sore throat. It is anti-inflammatory direct to the site of discomfort. Also should be safe to do in preg as your not actually ingestiging the drug.

Hot honey and lemon will sooth too.

Mite be worth trying vicks to help with ear congestion. I used it at 30weeks,just put some in a cup of hot water a sniffed intermittently.

Hope you feel better soon

It sounds like you might be on your way

BlameItOnTheBogey · 19/12/2009 15:55

Thanks. Am gargling with salt water a lot in the hope that that might help. I'm not too worried about feeling rubbish at the moment but I'm worried that I'll get worse before I get better and that'll be the moment when labour decides to start. I'd heard that feeling generally out of sorts was a good indicator of labour. But this is different to that; I just think I have a common winter cold. Sorry for self pitying woe is me postings....
