Anyone regretted an elective c-section?

Got a date today for my ELCS. Had appt with consultant a month ago, she said she was happy for me to opt for ELCS based on all that happened last time but I'd get all the support I needed if I wanted to go for VBAC. Told me to come back in a month and let her know what the decision was.

I decided to opt for ELCS but at the appt today I saw a registrar who was much keener to push VBAC. I stuck to my decision and booked a date for CS but more or less on my due date, the rationale being that if I go into labour before then, it's meant to be, so to speak. But she kind of left me feeling like I was making a crazy decision and I feel like I'm somehow taking the 'easy' option and that I should be trying again for a natural birth.

So has anyone gone for an ELCS and then wished afterwards they'd tried for a VBAC.

MsDoctor exactly - vaginal births arent always straight forward etc, mine was in theatre with epidural and forceps so didnt really feel like "normal" delivery. I then had an emcs and for this baby I am going for an elective cs

Leonied thanks for sharing your experiences. Other than being 2 years older and having already had one c-section I think I'm more or less in the same physical condition i was in a couple of years ago (albeit with a few more lines here and there ) but I'm conscious that this one might not be straightforward anyway. Just thinking that I might be in a better position with whatever follows it if I've had a decent night's sleep before rather than two days ineffectual labour!

I'm not crazy about my CS scar either, it's slightly wonky (I guess that happens in an emergency) and quite high up but I figure it's already there... so how much worse can it get?! The consultant said she'd go in at the same scar. And I am so very grateful to the surgical team for getting DD out safely when she needed to be got out.

Brightred good luck with your CS this time - when are you due?

I was 37 when I had my elective section, three years after my first emergency section, and second time my milk came in quickly[first time it didn't for ages] I recovered and was out in 3 days [8 days first time around] and dd was birthed onto my tummy, and had immediate skin to skin, whereas first time ds was whisked away to be checked. So it depend s on your experience I suppose.

Have had 3 CSes, first emergency, second and third elective.

I regretted my second c-section a bit as DD had to go to SCBU with "grunting" (breathing problems). These were caused by her being an elective caesarean as labour is not present to squeeze the mucus out of the baby's lungs. I felt guilty, although the main reason for my choosing an elective for my second time around was considering her safety (I was worried about the possibility of a rupturing scar, and would not be reassured, particularly not by the patronising and dismissive bastard Doctor I spoke to).

She was fine in the end, never even had oxygen. And it did not stop me having a third section with DS2 (still worrying about rupturing scar, but this time I think the Docs wanted me to have a section as I'd had two). DS2 was fine, no breathing trouble.

No, had dd1 by emergency C-section and dd2 by elective C-section. Both were good, but the elective one was better as we were all prepared for it. Went smoothly and had an easy recovery. Definitely didn't regret it at all.

somethinganything Not due until 1st May so my elective should be the last week of April I imagine. Good luck with yours, I feel a weight has been lifted off my shoulders arriving at the decision of an elective.
