Everything is going to be fine!

How long did you have to stay in when your DS was born? I had an EMCS when DS was born 23:00 on a Tuesday night, I was home by Thursday afternoon.

Very shortly you will be sitting at home watching your DS's face light up as he opens his gifts with your new baby in your arms! If things don't quite go to plan and you can't make it home for the 25th, you can delay Christmas - save some of your DS's presents for when you are home and the whole family can celebrate together.

Good luck to you and your DS, I'm sure his favourite present will be his new brother/sister

I'm sure you'll be fine - by all accounts ELCS recovery is much faster. They probably just have to warn you about potentially longer stays.

I did miss xmas two years ago due to EMCS - eventually made it home on New Year's Eve. But they were very different circs and even though it wasn't ideal, the magic of xmas wasn't lost and we all opened presents together on 1 Jan!

Also had lots of visitors to cheer me up during xmas week because everyone was off work...

I'm booked for an ELCS on 23rd and have been told I will likely be in for at least 7 days (will only be 35+6 with twins)... so I know Christmas is in hospital. However it's made a little easier that way as because it is known I'll be in we are doing Christmas on Sunday instead. Also DS is only 3 so easier to 'fool'. Also I'm just so desperate for this pregnancy to end I don't care it's Christmas! But understand you might not feel like that!

However, I also have heard that recovery tends to be quicker with ELCS rather than an emergency. I had an emergency section with DS and I think the biggest hindrance to my receovery was the 40 hours of labour, and 72 hours of no sleep, preceding it - I was absolutely wrecked. So if you can rest up as much as possible I should think you have a good chance of being out on the 24th.

But if not, then don't worry - be prepared that you might not be, else you'll put so much pressure on yourself. And if you are out then great, if not, then delay Christmas a few days until you are home.

I also can relate to the worry of the surgery looming - things play in your head. But thousands of sections are done every day - and just focus on the end result - your baby... and try not to focus on the 1 hour (that's nothing!) to get there...

All the best!
