Don't know what to do? ELCS or try Natural?

I had my consultants appointment at 16weeks because I had a rough first birth and my dd had a SUV and midwife wasn't sure if it was hiertary (SP) ...

Anyway before the appointment I got myself quite worked up and syched that I would try Hypno Birth! Consultant offered me a elective section....I was in shock and I immediately refused he put on my notes not keen on a section....

However ever since then i've thought of nothing else my last birth was forceps in theatre after failed ventouse (I didn't realise forceps are normally done in delivery room).....placenta rupted as well....epistomy (SP) stitches....overall not a great experience....

I've pretty much gone full circle and was convinced maybe a planned section would be best that way I can plan childcare everyones recovery I've heard from a planned section is much quicker....my in-laws are a pain but only live 20mins drive away however my mum leaves 3hrs away if I have a planned section my mum can have DD...

But reading MossChops latest probs has made me I know its major surgery and not to be sniffed at but ....I can't seem to make it clear in my mind....any thoughts on those that have had a bad first experience and gone onto have a good 2nd birth? or have had a ELS and been glad they did???

bumping for you

JACKIEwrappingPAPER · 14/12/2009 21:58

i had an elective Caearean after a previous difficult forceps delivery. like yourself i went full circle from homebirth to ELSCS.

part of me knows i made the right decision, part of me wishes i had tried again as i would love to have had a natural birth experience.

only you can make that decision. good luck with whatever you decide

i have just had a planned section, but for different reasons. I must say it was a lovely expieirience. Not a decision to be taken lightly, but such a calm and controlled birth, and I am almost completely recovered now, 28 days later. Me and the baby have bonded immediately, no health problems for both of us, my mental state is normal, everything is brill

I had been absolutely terrified of childbirth after a difficult first time, I feel that this time "healed" my mind and was such a brilliant thing to do.

Thanks maxpower for bumping

Jackie and Butterpie its hard isn't it? I know a CS isn't an "easy option" and the not driving will be really hard for me...but that will stop me doing so much so quickly.....

Ive heard u recover quicker when itz planned tho so fingers crossed...recovery is hard Butterscotch but if u have plenty of help and rest it will all b worth it...plus like me u already have had a bad experience of childbirth and have survived it

I had a very similar experience to Butterpie. My ECS was fantastic, I was awake throughout (a spinal block), the staff were reassuring and caring and my recovery was very fast without complication. Pain was controlled throughout, and by the time I left hospital 3 days after the section I needed none other than 2 paracetamol the following day.

After a very quick labour and ventouse delivery with DD1, where I bled so badly I was told I might die and DD became distressed during labour (and where the pain was indescribable) I was even more scared of childbirth the 2nd time, although I previously wouldn't have thought that possible.

Every woman's experience is different but all I can say is that I can happily and honestly recommend an ESC and that I hope that my story counter-balances some of the scary c-section ones which we hear of. Remember too that normally we only hear of the bad things, be it c-sections, burglaries or aggressive dogs, as uneventful births, afe towns and cuddly dogs don't make news.

Whichever you decide upon, good luck.

Thanks VallHala I think reading mosschops probs and a RL friend who had some issues with her scar made me doubt myself again! Baby is currently breach (20weeks) so maybe a no choice situation anyway!

Hi
I had similar first birth by the sounds of it - failed ventouse followed by forceps. Second birth couldn't have been more different. Had dd in water, just gas and air, only tiny bit of tearing so healing time was next to nothing (well by comparison). Good luck with whatever you decide. I'm due no.3 in few weeks and wondering what this one has in store...
