Any midwives about?

I had a fab home water birth and now I am beginning to emerge from my post-birth fug, I keep thinking about how lucky I was to have amazing midwives both throughout my pg and at my birth. I really want to buy something for the team and something for the main mw who was at the birth. In addition to some biscuits/chocs for the office, I was thinking of a nice copy of a good mw book - or is that really boring? Also, if I bought the mw involved a voucher would she be allowed to keep it, or do I have to stick to a plant and chocs? What would you really appreciate? Thanks!

Officially not supposed to accept monetary gifts but a voucher would be OK I think. I got gold class cinema tickets once, very much appreciated. However,my favourite keepsake is a handmade thank you card with a baby's footprint in gold paint - it is gorgeous. Did you take any photos? I like them too, always gives you the warm and fuzzies.

Not a midwife, but I sent my midwife and doula a big box of Lush products. The only thing I would worry about with a book is that they've got it already? Good midwives usually seem well-read

I'm not a midwife but can I also suggest that a note copied to the midwife's supervisor praising her is always a nice thing to have as well - she might not be the sort of person that would blow her own trumpet but it's always nice to have recognition from your managers. In the public sector we're always having to do endless performance reviews and letters from the public are always very gratefully received - even more so when they go to your manager !

Thank you for all your replies. Like the idea of photos and footprints - am feeling a bit sad that we didn't get a pecific photo of the mws with dd (mind wasn't really on the ball that night !!

How would I find out who to write to? Would it be at the hospital or the head of the same team iyswim? Am more than happy to sing their praises!!

You can write the head of midwifery. I did that because I work in the NHS and knew it was nice to get a thank you letter not just moans. I got a lovely letter back.
