elCS section booked 38 w, Doc think it 39 w and wouldn't listen

I had my 32 weeks scan today. According to me 31 + 5.
Baby is big, showing 33+ so Doc moved my due date from 7 of feb to 30 of jan (impossible baby wasn't concieved during my period or when my DH was abroad!). He wouldn't listen to me though and booked a CS for 23 of jan. Should I worried that baby will be delivered at 38 weeks instead of 39? Should I fight for a change of date or there will be little difference?
Thanks

Ive just booked in 4 ELCS begged the consultant 2 section me at 38wks cauz im due crimbo day--only d8 they can fit me in is 22nd so might nt b home 4 crimbo 1st consultant said 38wk+ woz fine 2nd refused point blank 2 book me in b4 39wks!! He sd this woz only bcauz if they have the option they will leaave u til ur 39wks as its safer bt if there are other factors cauzin risks they wont hesistate in doin the op at 38wks if they r higher than the risks of sectioning a wk earlier...if that makes sense!! Basically he woz saying its safe at 38wks just prefer 2 leave it as l8 as possible!! Hope thz helps

I had my DD during my 37th week - she was absolutely fine. As I recall, anything from 38 weeks onwards is regarded as full-term.

Perhaps your consultant feels that, the later you leave it, the more likely you are to go into labout spontaneously, which if you're going for an elective C-section, is presumably something you/they want to avoid?

I've been told that I will have to have an elective CS if I have any more, and that it will be booked in at around 37 weeks to preempt me going into labour. If you're worried though, have a chat with your midwife

Talked to my midwife and she says new researches think the best time for elCS is between 38 and 39 weeks. So feel reassured
It may help you drama with your struggle? you are very difficult to read and I am not sure it was what you were after? what's a crimbo?

Any time from 37 weeks is term. I had my DD naturally at 37 +1 and she was absolutely fine.

I had an em cs following a nightmare labour at 37 weeks and DS was fine.

For my planned cs with dd I had to 'wait' until 39 weeks as the consultant said it reduced the chance of babies having breathing difficulties. It seems to differ from hospital to hospital.

TinyPawz · 13/12/2009 00:44

My DD was born by elective CS at 38 weeks. All was fine. Babies are classed full term after 37 weeks, I think.

TinyPawz · 13/12/2009 00:46

linky 37 weeks.....you'll be grand

SofiaAmes · 13/12/2009 00:48

I thought latest studies said best time was after 39 weeks. You should definitely google it. My experience with NHS consultants is that they are not up on the latest research.

Hi
The nearer to 39 weeks and over the better for an elective c/s. Research from NICE says that unless there is a medical reason to do c/s before then leave till as near to 39 weeks as possible. Definitely better for the baby's lungs. If you go into labour then that helps with getting rid of the fluid in the baby's lungs. Speak to a Supervisor of midwives to support you.

MW is not NHS as I am not in the UK. She just came back from a course in swizterland where they are supposed to be the best at midwifery... So I will trust her (not the doc though..), I will make sure I ask her again closest to the date...
midwife3 that what I thought too, that's why I ask the question. If I have a doubt and still can't convinced the doc, I will probaly call in sick at 38 weeks and delay till 39....
Thanks for your answers.
