Bleeding after a c-section

Hope someone can advise me. I had a planned c-section 6 weeks ago - all went swimmingly.

Recovery has gone really well, it's just my bleeding 'down below' that's concerning me. It was pretty light to start with and seemed to have completely stopped within about 10 days. Then suddenly a week or so later, there was more, quite a lot, then it calmed down again, and since then it's been coming and going, I'll have a couple of days with nothing at all, then a day or two with more. Not majorly heavy, but I'm getting fed up with the stop-start and also at the stage where I'm a bit worried something's wrong. I feel absolutely fine, no pain or anything. Blood is bright red.

Any clues would be welcome. DH thinks I need to speak to the doctor, which I suppose I do really.

Agree with DH, see your doctor. I had a section almost 4 weeks ago and am still bleeding daily. I have my post natal check up next week so will mention it then. I think in some cases it can be a sign of infection, but don't quote me on that. I am worried about it too but just don't have the time to see doctor earlier. If you do get to the doctors, let me know how you get on. good luck xxx

thanks TOK. Will try and get to the doctors I guess. Not easy with a newborn...! Hopefully it will be nothing to worry about - I'm encouraged by the fact that I feel otherwise fine.

Hope yours is nothing to worry about either!

I still had this until nearly 8 weeks. I found a small amount of blood would start up again after I'd been walking or had a day where I'd been more active than just sitting around feeding. Medically I don't know if you need it checking out, but I personally didn't as I just put it down to activity and, as I say, it eventually settled down. Maybe you could give your health visitor a quick ring as it sounds like a fairly common occurrance after a CS, I expect they would be able to put your mind at rest (or advise otherwise).

Agree with Fanfare - I bled for 8 weeks and it was stop start for a while, depending on how active I had been that day. FWIW I was still in substantial pain at that point too but it was all fine, healed up nicely and bleeding stopped. Would defo mention it to the HV or GP/practice nurse to be on the safe side though. Hope you have a speedy recovery xx

thanks ladies, that is reassuring. Now I think about it I have been reasonably active recently, so maybe that's it. I'm due to see the HV next week anyway so I'll mention it then rather than rushing to the doctor.
