my best friend has asked me to be her birthing partner and i am over the moon with the idea. she is now 16 weeks and im not pregnant yet but if i get pregnant this month i should only be 5 months ish when she goes into labour, can anyone think of any reasons why i shouldnt do it

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Only thing I can think of is that if you're pregnant yourself then you may be really tired and unable to cope with a very long birth, but presumably pregnant midwives deal with it?

I am a pregnant midwife, have just given up work (12 hours shifts) at 31 weeks two weeks ago. I did find it hard going towards the end of a shift but not too bad. You would be able to sit down a lot if you were with your friend so I would definately go for it if you can. Good luck in getting pregnant

congratulations and thank you maxbear. i have had a child myself so no the basics of what will happen. i know all labours are different but feel confident i could cope, its good to know from a midwife that it will be ok for me to be there to support my friend
