Home birth questions...

mama2moo · 08/12/2009 13:03

Im 33 weeks pg on Friday and have decided I would like a home birth.

My questions are -

Is it too late to change now?

Can I request to go to hospital if it happens late at night/early hours?

If 18mo dd and dp are in the house does there need to be anyone else? Dp wont be at the actual birth.

Thanks

no, not too late at all

yes, can change your mind and ask to transfer into hospital at any point (well up until the head is out anyway....)

A midwife (or two if you're lucky) if probably a good idea.

And good luck. Home births are the dogs gonads

Thanks, I had an easy labour with dd so if this one is the same (I wish) then I think it would be great.

We live in my sisters house and she has told us we arent allowed - What she doesnt know wont hurt!!

Why aren't you allowed? As long as you have all the stuff you need before hand youll be fine. ds5 was actualy born in our bathroom, unplanned, so I didnt realy get a chance to get anything ready but the bathroom mat seemed to do nicely and the towel DH wrapped him up in

I told my mw at 39.5 that i was having a hb - she dropped the stuff off that day and i had him on his due date so never too late to tell them

MamaLazarou · 08/12/2009 18:04

Silly sister - what difference would it make to her? They do put pads and things underneath you to catch the drips, you know

Have a lovely home birth, mama2moo.

Thank you. My sister is very anti mess etc in 'her house'!! She doesnt have kids and TBH I cant imagine her ever having any!

Right, I will book that in with my mw. I have heard they lock the gas and air, I will have to find a way of getting in it - I love that stuff!!

Hi Mama, just wanted to say good luck with yuor homebirth, mine was fab!! Don 't worry about mess, with a little preparation and tactically placed towels it is all contained. My waters actually went over my "nest" of cushions on the sitting room carpet, but I managed to jump up and grab a towel and there was no harm done.

My mw dropped off drugs for the fridge, some paperwork and some pad things the week before, but didn't bring the gas and air 'til I was in established labour.

Hope it all goes well

You might need to consider, if you had to transfer to hospital, would you want DP to come with you (even if they won't be witnessing the birth)? If so then you will need to have a third person on hand to look after DD.

My MW was happy to have DM on call (2mins away), but you need to consider all options.

BTW I had a HB for DD2 and it was marvelous! Good luck .
