hi,

I have a question that I hope someone out there can answer...

How long after an emcs is it normal to have bright red blood discharge with occasional clots? For instance, I had my emcs on sun 22nd and still have this now... Is it normal? What could cause it if not?

thanks

you still get lochia after a cs. the length of time you bleed for varies. I bled for 6 or 7 weeks aftre a vaginal delivery and for about 3-4 weeks aftre a cs. Its hard to remember more accurately

but if you are worried you should call your midwife or gp tomorrow

and congratulations on your baby

I've had three sections, the first was EMCS, and I can't remember there being clots after the first 5 days. Are you still under the MW or have you been discharged? You can still call the ante natal ward that you were at for advice for the first 14 days after birth IIRC.

Or call NHS direct.

thanks, the mw is due tomorrow afternoon so I'll mention it to her then, I'm a little worried that I might have pulled something internally or that its because they had some probs when stitching me back up - they took an hour once dd was delivered and put me on iv antibiotics and heperin whilst in hospital (3 nights) but I was pretty much left alone as I was feeding well etc... Saw the mw twice last week on thus and fri and due a visit tomorrow...

dd is a real sweetie, feeding really well and only lost 16gramms between sunday and friday! I am finding it hard to stop myself doing things - really must try and relax more!!

yes you must rest and not lift anything. remember those layers inside take a long time to heal. let your DH/DP look after you

Definitely mention it tomorrow. You might have been doing too much and the clots could possibly just be from the wound rather than the pregnancy iykwim.

Congratulations on you new DD

well unfortunately my mw is ill today so her visit is cancelled, she'll come next tues, someone else coming tomorrow to weigh dd and the health visitor is coming over... Hopefully tomorrow I'll have changed symptoms and this won't be an issue...
