Hi,
I am planning on a waterbirth, but it just dawned on me yesterday (I am due next week)that someone MUST have to get in the bath too, at the critical moment..? So who does? Dr? Midwife? And most crucially- what do they wear? My dr is a short fat man, so am not sure I really want to see him in his swimmers...!

no one gets in!!! dont panic! there is no need for anyone to get in. the Mw might reach in, and probably will do once the baby is born.

no-one got in the bath at my WB ...

the MW actually left me pretty much to it until i started to push and then she just put her arms in when DD's head came out to bring her up to the surface

Roffle at the doctor stripping off and joining you in the bath! That would sit rather at odds with the relaxing privacy of a waterbirth.

I had 2 students at my waterbirth. Imagine if we'd all been in there. In the end I also had an anaesthetist, 2 midwives, 2 surgeons and a trainee doctor. We could have had a swimming pool.

OP, don't worry, nobody will get in with you!

aw @ mrsjammi

DD's head came out and i saw all her dark hair

god - it was amazing - another push and she slithered out

magic

highly recommend a waterbirth

ha ha, phew then. I thought they'd have to get in...Lord, it'd really put you off your stroke to see the Dr in 90% of his 'glory' . OK, that's me told off then. The waterbirth plan continues apace. Thanks ladies!

Didnt get in my bath thank god cause that would of peed me off lol. I liked to move around as it helped. The mw was watching from the side and just knew when the right time was to put her hands in to aid baby out and was out straight onto my chest

mrsjammi its funny you should say that...my dd's head was out for 15 minutes before the rest of her decided to follow lol. I told some pals who didnt have waterbirths and they were pritty shocked by it all. I remember the mw saying she is taking her time and i was starting to get worried but it was fine.

jadey24 · 01/12/2009 19:58

oh yes the seive lol

Dh was in with me but I caught ds myself, I think (maybe dh caught him and handed him to me, I'm a bit hazy).

Midwife just sat and watched (and took pictures!) until we got out.
