Anyone had induced VBAC?

Hello,
I suffered with cholestasis in my first pregnancy and was induced at 37 weeks which ended up in a C-section.
I'm now pregnant again and it looks like I've got OC again and will be induced early.
My midwife is encouraging trying a VB, which I would like, but I've read that scar rupture could be more of a threat if your been induced? Just wondered if anyone had any experience??

Thanks
Cath

Hi Cath,
Most hospitals won't induce you because of the risk of scar rupture. At my hospital they will do sweeps and break your waters to see if that gets you into labout. If you haven't gone into labour within a few hours then they will do a section.
It does vary from hospital to hospital though so maybe ask your midwifes advice?
Good luck with it all.

Hi there

I posted about this on another thread - but yes I have just had a successful induced VBAC.

DS1 was born by planned section at 37 weeks due to placenta previa.

Was very keen for VBAC with DS2 and it happened like this:

My waters broke on the Sunday night at 39 weeks, but I didn't go into spontaneous labour, though did have mild irregular contractions. After 48 hours I was induced by syntocin drip due to risk of infection following waters breaking. I gave birth 4 1/2 hours after going on the drip with just gas and air - My theory is that the 2 days of waiting were doing something useful - I was never examined again due to risk of infection but I suspect i must have been at least a little dilated before going on the drip. I had to have CFM but kind of ignored it in the end, was sat on birth ball, walking up and down room, and gave birth on the bed on all fours - the monitor kept falling off but I thought that wasn't my problem really!

My experience was really good although not the 'natural' labour I'd hoped for - it does show though that it is certainly possible to have a VBAC after being induced. i'm sure others have similar experiences too. I think from what I've read that syntocin is usually used for VBAC as the prostoglandin gel can be too strong - also they can turn the drip down if need be but once the pessary is in, it's in.

Good luck with it all anyway!

Thanks for your messages. I will speak to consultant and find out what my hospital policy is and decide from there.

I was induced for my VBAC with DS2. Waters went on the Sunday and they induced me on the Wednesday.

My consultant (re my VBAC) said that it depends on what drug they are using to induce you - some of them weaken the scar tissue but others (e.g. mine) use another drug which does not - so they would be happy to induce for a VBAC. Definitely worth asking your consultant re the drugs they use and the risks associated with them and VBACs.

I think the issue is also that inductio - particularly by drip - can bring on very strong contractions very quickly, which is where the risk of scar rupture starts to rapidly increase.

I was told I could have pessaries but not a syntocin drip if I wanted a VBAC (I also had obstetric cholestasis) but in the end my liver function got rapidly worse at 36 weeks and I had to have a section.

I had an induction after c-section but i was given one attempt with a pessary,no drip as too strong. Luckily it worked and i have had 2 more vbacs since, although i wasn't induced again.
