Anyone got any that have worked for them or that are making the prospect of labour something to be less apprehensive about?

I found chanting in labor that if the pain gets to bad I can have an epidural and make the pain go away. By the time it got to the point where I wanted an epi I was pushing on ds. Dd easy birth though.

"It WILL end, it WILL end, it WILL end"
Worked a treat for me 2nd time round.

Buy a CD from www.natal-hypnotherapy.com - worked for me, mw commented on how relaxed I was (despite previous traumatic birth experience).

Alternatively, something like:
Each contraction is bringing me closer to meeting my baby.

I second the natal hypnotherapy CD. It really relaxs and empowers you, and gives you faith in yourself to birth your baby. You will need to start using it a few weeks before you are due.

Another idea is to not refer to or think of "pain" in labour, instead think of it as a strong sesnsation which helps to get your baby out.

Just focus on your breathing, words are not much help in the middle of a contraction (though feel free to swear if you are so inclined)

If any one is thinking of buying the Natal Hypnotherapy CDs try looking on Ebay. On the official website its about £40 for 4 CDs or £12 each, plus p&p. I just got 2nd hand ones from Ebay for about £5 each.

I use the Mongan method of hypno, worked a tread with DS. Just did my rainbow and affirmations practice then, feeling all blissed out now .

I found it helpful when MV told me that every contraction was uterus shrinking and it wouldn't get bigger again so every contraction really is one step closer to meeting the baby as fff says.

Labour doesn't have to be traumatic anyway, browse these boards and lots of people have had straightforward labours, I've had 2 now and can honestly say I would do it again tomorrow as there is nothing more exciting than meeting your new baby.
