Bath after a section - allowed?

I had a planned section on monday, everything is going to plan healing wise, but I am dying for a soak in the bath...with my first, I was still in hospital on blood transfusions at this point, and can't remember when I had my first bath.

Presuming I can get DP to help me in and out, can I have a bath now? I suppose I will have to use plain water or baby bath, but that is fine, I just feel the warm water will help my aches and pains.

I have rung the midwife, but it was an answerphone and god knows when they will get back to me.

Could you ring the labour ward lissy?

Congrats on baby

Bath shouldn't be a problem - I was advised to use some lavender oil in bath after my last section to help with healing so it's fine. Just so long as you do get a help getting in and out (out is the hardest!)

Enjoy and congrats on baby

Bath at home should be fine. Think they don't like to bath in the hospital after CS incase you pick up an infection. I had to have a bath at home on day 3 as my boobs were rock hard and lying in the bath with warm flannels was the best kind of relief. The excess milk flowed out and DD was able to latch on better when they weren't the size of watermelons!

After my first section they told me to not to bath for a fortnight. I had my second section last year and the HV looked at me like I was mad when I asked if it was the same 'rule' and said 'for God sake go and get yourself a nice long soak, woman!'

No problem with having a bath, just make sure you do not strain to get in or out.

After a bath or shower I always used to pat my scar dry then lay down and leave it to air dry for a while to make sure it was defo dry.

I was advised to add a little salt to the bath water to help with healing.
Congratulations on the birth of your baby
and well done with healing so fast, I wish I knew how to do that!

Brill, hot water is on, I will be in the bath soon...milk has come in as well, so I really need the relief...just hoping the baby doesn't wake up and decide she wants milk halfway through as she dad a big poo in her last bath and not sure what newborn poo in the water would do to the scar!
