Booked in for elective section but only 4 days before EDD!

Hi there

Following an emergency section with my DD, I have persuaded the consultant (or rather a registrar working in his clinic) to let me have a planned section with this pg.

I had my 20 week scan/appt last weds and they booked me in there and then for the section. All fine apart from the fact that the first available date they had after 39 weeks is at 39+3 which I feel is rather close to my EDD. My waters broke with my first DD at 39+4 so my history is sooner rather than later!

I'm thinking of writing to the consultant and asking if my section could be planned in the week leading up to 39 weeks (my EDD happens to be a Saturday when they don't do elective sections which is how I've ended up being booked at 39+3). Does this sound reasonable? My whole reason for wanting a planned section was to have peace of mind knowing that I wouldn't have to go through the stress of my first birth.

Would appreciate your views/advice about asking to reschedule.

Thanks
MLM

I've been told by my mw that electives are now generally booked close to your due date - it used to be done quite early but it's not as good for the baby. If you go into labour before the booked date, you would be able to phone and arrange for it to be brought forward and it would be done as an emergency elective. if that makes sense.

It depends on the hospital. I had an elective cs at 38 weeks as DD was breach and a few other issues meant the hospital didn't want to wait until their normal 39 week cs limit. But, a former colleague had her baby in a different county and the normal cs time is 38 weeks.

Im booked in for 39+4..i will just call them and have the section brought forward should my waters go or anything before that date. Good luck!

That's normal I think. If your waters break you just go in for an em cs, though not so em and a bit more immediate el iyswim.
