Hi, just wondering if being induced speeds up birth? Was induced with dc1&2 and dc1 turned up in 4 hours and dc2 in 3 hours from first twinge to baby!
All normal this time so waiting and wondering - were they quick because I was induced or can I expect this one to be quick????? HELP!!!!

Well I only have one DC but was induced and it took 2.5 days! And three of my friends had the same experience. I don't think it does make it quicker on then whole. Hopefully third time around your body will know the drill! Good luck.

after 5 days of induction I had a cs, so for me, not it was not quick!

Joycey29 · 13/11/2009 20:16

Thanks for info - not sure what to think but hope it's speedy!!

DC1 induced = 13hrs ish
DC2 spontaneuous = less than 2.5hrs
DC3 due now, will get back to you!

Joycey29 · 13/11/2009 20:40

Thanks Grendle - what was spontaneous labour like? Have only ever been induced so feeling a little worried.....

dd1 induced = 9 1/2 hrs
dd2 induced = 5 hrs
good luck

Grendle · 14/11/2009 00:37

Spontaneous labour was actually lovely , bizzare though that sounds. V gentle in comparison to induction.

Induction experiences varied wildly, time wise. 'Doing it myself' ditto. The difference was in the intensity of the contractions. Induction contractions came to an intense spike fast, but 'natural' contractions were more gradual (not less painful overall, just peaked more gradually). Right before the end, there wasn't much difference, though.

twinklegreen · 14/11/2009 10:59

dd1 spontaneous 10hr
ds induced 4hrs
dd2 spontaneous4 hrs

iwantapinkprincess · 14/11/2009 11:01

Induced with ds1 2 hrs 20 mins
Induced with ds2 2 hrs 5 mins
Natural ds3 1 hr 15 min

Am hoping dc4 will follow the pattern.

electra · 14/11/2009 11:02

I think it depends on you and whether you've had a baby before. I had two spontanious labours and was induced the third time and it took a few hours...

readyfornumber2and3 · 15/11/2009 10:57

DS1- naturally went into labour 3hrs 19 mins
DTS- induced 47mins from 1st contraction to both babies

So not really sure if it sped it up or not as they say 2nd labours are usually faster anyway

EccentricaGallumbits · 15/11/2009 11:06

with induction you tend to get into 'real' established labour faster because you are on the rollercoaster, the clock is ticking and the policies say that you have specific time limits to get on with it. if you are slowing down a bit then the drip gets turned up.

NowtonTelly · 15/11/2009 11:32

Induction didnt really work for me. 4 days later I still wasnt properly dilated and had an emergency section.

clairechurcher · 15/11/2009 11:45

Induction was slow for me, took 2 days!

warthog · 15/11/2009 11:49

induction means different things to different people.

were you induced with a syntocinon drip or with a pessary?

a drip will force contractions, and so i think those labours are quicker.

dd1 - induced, 6.5 hours
dd2 - natural, 2 hours (established labour - actual contractions were going on for a few more hours)

badietbuddy · 15/11/2009 11:55

I would avoid another induction based on my experiences. DD was induced and took 13 hours. Ds was natural and took 3.5 and was a much better experience all round. It was a relief tbh to know I could go into labour by myself, and the natural high I had afterwards was amazing. WIth dd the induction led to an epidural and I was incredibly sore afterwards. With ds I only had gas and air, was able to squat to deliver and tbh felt brilliant afterwards. Unless there is a real reason to induce (baby in distress, failed placenta, etc) then I would try and hold off

Joycey29 · 15/11/2009 21:50

I was induced with just a pessary both times. Still hoping a natural birth will be as quick as kind of have my head round that!!!
Thanks for all your input - no conclusive answer but I feel better!!!
