Hi. Glad it's not infected. So, how is the lovely new arrival? I have a new one too. Born 19 May (caesarean).

He's doing ok.. we have to go for an MRI scan on Monday just to check he hasn't got any obvious problems with his brain from his dodgy delivery. We'll be pleased when that is over. He's not putting weight on, and even though I am breastfeeding I am having to top him up with a couple of formula feeds a day. How are you doing?

"Dodgy delivery"? That sounds terrible. Can I ask what happened? My DD was born by emergency caesarean, but thankfully she's perfectly healthy. Gosh it does seem you have more than your fair share of post natal troubles.

I too am TRYING to breastfeed, but there doen't seem to be much supply, so DS gets a bottle of formula after he suck on the breast for 45 minutes or so. With DD I gave up after a couple of weeks. DS is now 4 weeks old, so I feel I've done well to last this long.

Hi. Had reduced fetal movement, went in for monitoring, no movements and his heartrate kept dropping. His cord was round his neck twice and had a knot in it and he had had a poo! Once he was born he didn't want to breathe, and actually stopped breathing about 20 times after that. Luckily the NNU was fantastic, really on the ball.
We have just come back from hospital, he needed to have an MRI scan of his brain to make sure he didn't suffer any brain damage. Have to wait until August for results!
More advice needed about the breastfeeding. He will feed for about half an hour at a time, but doesn't seem satisfied. I am starting to wonder if he is spending half the time just comfort sucking and that is why he's not putting the weight on. Any views on this would be gratefully accepted.

mhorne
re the length of time feeding, baies do like just to suck, so he may have got his fill, when i was in those early days of feeding, i let them have 25mins one side and changed over to other side 20mins max there,
if he is unsettled after that it might just be that - unsettled , not necessarily hungry.

i dont know how old your baby is. Have you decided to follow any routine or are feeding on demand?
i followed routine - no there were times when it felt like i feed all the bloody day, but my boobs were full so i needed him to get the milk out.
but it does settle into a fairly regular pattern, if you ant it to and provided you want routine,

If the baby is feeding for long periods but not putting on weight then you do need to have someone look at the latch. Does your hospital have a breastfeeding clinic/baby cafe? topping up will reduce your supply long term.
