Lochia - stopped a few days after birth, then started again. Now as heavy as a period and fairly bright red. Can this be normal?

Bleeding went brown and very scant after only about four days, then came back. I think it might be increasingly red. It definitely doesn't smell. I've got some achey pain/pressure in my vulva if I stand up or walk around for a long time, and my stitches feel a bit stingy/prickly, but I don't think I have any abdominal pain.

Should I be worried?

I would consult your doctor TBH if you are 2 weeks pp and it is bright red and heavy. That is not normal.

Do you feel fluey or unwell?

No, I feel fine. Wouldn't it smell bad if there was a problem?

I booked an appt with the doc this afternoon, but will have to take my three DCs in with me...nightmare! Does anyone know if I'll have to have an internal? Have had smears and sweeps with the DCs in tow and it's bloody stressful.

The bright red bleeding can start again if you are busy/doing a lot.

I bled bright red blood for at least 3 weeks and bled for 6 weeks in total. Midwife was unconcerned. No abdominal pain, no offensive smell.

Probably best to check with the GP anyway if you're concerned.

I had this. At 6 week check they sent me to Gynae unit at hospital for an internal ultrasound to check for "retained products", eeeww, and there weren't any but the womb lining was thickened. They diagnosed endometritis (inflammation caused by infection, occurs in about 1% of vaginal births) and put me on ABs, cleared up in a couple of weeks. Don't worry but do clearly tell your GP your symptoms and get it checked.
