Gave birth to dd1 nearly 8 weeks ago and had normal delivery, v quick at just over 3 hours but no real problems. Bled heavily for first 3 or 4 weeks and was petering out to nothing when I had a v sudden and heavy bleed of bright red blood and a clot at six weeks. Has happened another four or five times over last 11 days (sudden and always with clots) and saw GP today who said he thinks it may be a cervical tear. Have to go back for internal exam next wednesday then possibly a scan. Does anybody have experience of this? Just wondered what the treatment was and whether there were any implications for future pregnancies etc? Was not really with it at GP's and didn't ask enough questions!

no idea, but thought it deserved a bump!
Maybe you can tell us what the GP said in reply to your questions, too.

I would be really surprised if it was a cervical tear TBH. I think you would have bled long before now, and most probably after delivery. Could it be a period? If it is retained products then you would possible need a D&C. Why did he not refer you for a scan now? Sorry, don't really think GPs know much in relation to obstetric complications. In my neck of the woods you would have been referred to the obstetrician.

Hi i'm expecting my 2nd child and due to a tear in my cervix from last delivery of a 10lb6 baby! I have been booked in for a cerclage operation in 2 weeks time....a little worried so can anyone tell me more about the op,side affects afterwards etc...does it hurt!!

slinkstah · 22/06/2006 13:34

baby2 i can tell you about cerclage, you will have a spinal so will not feel anything in the op, although any op is a little scarey. afterwards i bled alot so they left a pack inside me and a catheter which was removed the next day. i had some contractions after but they settled down and was out the next day. you will probably be out the same day though.

there was no pain from the cerclage at all until i go to 34ish weeks and i got a sharpe pain in the cervix. when i got this i took it easier. With a stitch pregnancy you should take it easy anyway and not do too much.
They took my cerclage out at 37 weeks and i am now 40 weeks today and waiting rather impatiently for labour
hth

Good luck this week hopefully on the safe arrival of your baby.I'm going in for a c section due to my pelvic structure/tear this time so think they take stich out then.I know i'm having a general though and not a spinal but sounds like its worked for you which is reassuring ... many thanks.I'm glad i read your msg when my hubi was present re taking it easy!!!
