Hi just starting to look at what I want to buy to pack in my hospital bag and I would like to try Arnica to aid recovery after the birth, however it comes in two different doses 6c and 30c which is best?

Also any other homeopathic/ natural remedies/ tips you recommend!

thanks in advance

I took 6c every 2hrs for 2-3 days after each of mine were born, first dose asap, and it worked really well

I took 30c recommended by Dr Gowri Motha, author of the Gentle Birth Method

There's a whole list of stuff in her book to take, I took some but no idea if they made a difference. I'll try and list them for you tonight if I get a chance - I remember Bachs Rescue Remedy was one of them

The 30c is stronger...I would go for that one.

tea tree oil to add to bath/shower water to prevent infection etc

Thanks everyone

Migola, that would be great, no hurry though I'm only 33 weeks!

You could also pack M&S wet Toilet Wipes with Aloa Vera and Witch Hazel - very soothing for after the birth for holding over any stitches.

Not a remedy, but my essential object was a little battery operated fan. Hospitals are often kept really hot, and this really helped me be a bit less uncomfortable.

Tea Tree Oil (sell in Body Shop). Put it on your pads after birth, will help with any stitches/general healing. It's a natural antiseptic and doesn't sting. Also get the shower gel for washing or put a few drops of the oil in the bath

I had 4th degree tear and it really helped.

Ouch mumtojennifer, poor you!

Interested to know - did you dilute the tea tree oil before putting it on the pads or was it ok to use neat?

Thanks

You need Arnica in the 200C potency for labour/healing, 6c and 30c are not strong enough (I'm a qualified Homeopath).

If you use arnica duing labour you do not need rescue remedy (they do the same thing - balancing emotions/preventing exhaustion - and both are homeopathic). You can buy Arnica in 200c from an online homeopathic pharmacy (Helios, Ainsworths etc..) or from Ebay.

Lavender oil is great for your first bath (I personally think tea tree is too strong & drying) and calendula tincture is fantastic made into a weak solution and used with cotton balls for sore nipples and stitches.

p.s: Gowri Motha is not a homeopath and as such her advice is no correct, please avoid it!!!!!

Mrswee - I just put a couple of neat drops of the oil on the pads and in the bath. I found the body shop tea tree shower gel to be pleasant and moisurising but all skins types differ. Lavender based products make me sneeze!!

I didn't even consider taking any arnica.....I'll remember for this time
