Is it true more babies are born on a full moon???

I know it may be thought of as witchy pagany type stuff but we just realised DS was born on full moon and so were quite a few babies we know.

Just wondering if there is any truth in the whole Luna connection with women's reproductive cycles?

Anyways.... Just a bit of silliness really

all 3 of mine were on or near a full moon.

therefore it's true

kitkatqueen · 09/08/2009 01:01

Believe me I wish this one was

Mimile · 09/08/2009 14:15

last full moon was Thursday 6th, so I missed that boat
Leaves us with the 4th of September, and I hope I won't have to wait until then

mummy2t · 10/08/2009 10:43

when would the next one be after the 4th?? i am due the 28th but previous babies were born 3 and 4 weeks early so who knows!!

edam · 10/08/2009 11:17

dunno but most babies are born in the early hours of the morning due to hormones or circadian rhythms or something I forget...

PinkTulips · 10/08/2009 12:25

not mine.... 14.53, 23.47 and 11.59

MummyDragon · 10/08/2009 12:36

Both mine were born on a full moon!

MummyDragon · 10/08/2009 12:36

Oh, and one was a week early and one was a week late ...

ZippysMum · 10/08/2009 14:48

I was in the Day Assessment unit at our local maternity hospital. It was quite quiet both there and in the delivery suite. I mentioned it to the head midwife.

She said "yes, but it will be busy by the end of the week - full moon".

I said - do you get more ladies in at a full moon? She said "Yes, and also lots of ladies with Prem. rupture of membranes. I was a bit

Having said that, I have worked in both schools and SN settings and can confirm that both kids and adults with SN go a bit bananas at full moon so anything's possible!!

Just used this to check and I and my eldest were born near a New Moon whilst youngest was near a Full Moon.

PinkTulips · 10/08/2009 15:06

dd day before FM
ds1 3 days after NM (was wrong about him... his due date was the FM which is why i was confused)
ds2 day of FM

edam · 10/08/2009 15:40

Pink, I should have said 'middle of the night', that would have covered most of yours. Although I think it is true that the peak time for deliveries is the wee small hours.

No idea about the stats for full moons, though. According to that table, ds was born five days after a full moon. Which probably doesn't count. And he certainly wasn't going to hang on for another four weeks, he was 41+1 anyway!

PinkTulips · 10/08/2009 17:56

no it wouldn't... 14.53 and 11.59 are both middle of the day! ds1 was the closest to middle of the night at a few minutes to midnight

It's true - inside information here

My nights as an O+G SHO were always at full moon and always busier than anyone else's!

edam · 10/08/2009 18:57

of course, should have spotted you were doing 24-hour clock!

You are unusual then - honestly, the peak time for deliveries really is the small hours.

IDreamOfJeannie · 10/08/2009 19:29

My DD was born near a new moon.

My mum has 4 children and we were all born on a Thursday. Freaky.

hazeyjane · 10/08/2009 19:39

When I had dd1 ( on a full moon ) the MW said it was always busier and there was a lot more bellowing on a full moon!
