Bit of a long shot, but has anyone with a bi-cornuate uterus had a VBAC?

I am 8+3 with dc2. Ages to go, I know that, but I can't help fast forwarding to the inevitable consultant's appointment where they will probably try to persuade me to have another elective cs.

I had one with ds in oct 2005 because he was breech, with one foot up by his ear. When they were operating, they found his head was stuck in one of the lobes of my bi-cornuate uterus. I am glad that I had a cs because it would probably have ended in an emergency cs anyway.

But, this time, if the baby presents head down, I would like to try for a VBAC and wanted to know if anyone had done it.

Of course, this one could be breech too, in which case the decision is made for me..

Only another 32 weeks of wondering about it.

I have a b-corn uterus, everything I read told me I would have to have a c-section yet no-one was even slightly bothered about it. Dd was diagonal tranverse. I kept repeating when dd still didn't put in an appearance on my third day in labour in hospital...

Second time around still no-one is bothered about that but a very long labour and big baby getting stuck needing help of forceps and lots lots of tearing everyone is tripping over themselves offering me c-section but going to stick with the normal exit route!!

Good luck!!

Thanks carrielou. I know there are quite a few women on MN who have a bi cornuate uterus, and have delivered perfectly normally. It's the VBAC bit that I think they will get twitchy about.

Do you know the extent of the shape of yours? Mine doesn't seem to be too badly indented at the top, but it does obviously affect the shape on the inside IYSWIM

I have two big horns (and I'm not talking about my boobs !!)

At each scan was told it would be fine though would restrict movement of dd who was 9 lb 6 and I'm size 12. Had 2 MC before her, one of which was twins of which can be common with bi-corn. I think the second time is also thought to be less of an issue as everything has been stretched before so to speak !!

mawbroon · 22/07/2009 22:20

Sorry to hear about your miscarriages. They do say it is more common in a bi corn. I had one last year, but suspect it was more to do with short luteal phase rather than bi corn, but as with most mcs, I will never know for sure.

It sounds like yours is probably more pronounced than mine. Mine is heart shaped rather than two almost separate horns IYSWIM

I had no idea about this first time round or would have probably been worried sick. At least this time I have the reassurance that I know I can carry a baby to term (ds was 39+1 when they did cs, who knows how long he would have stayed in there of his own accord!!) and like you say, it could be stretched enough this time round for it not really to be an issue at all.

I need to stop thinking of all the possibilities and just wait and see, don't I!!

Well, here we are.

I am bumping this because I am now 37+5. Baby is head down and the consultant has given the go ahead for a VBAC!!!

He has given me a 70% chance of a successful VBAC which I think is pretty good odds. He does want me continuously monitored because of the higher risk of rupture (both for previous section scar, and bi-corn uterus in general) but he says there will still be the room to move about and I won't be strapped down to the bed.

I won't be moving a huge deal anyway becuase I have a broken ankle.....

Consultant said that they won't induce me, again because of the rupture risk, so I have been booked in for a section on 8th March which is 9 days over, just in case I don't go into labour before then.

Any words of wisdom about my situation from anybody?

Hopeful bump......

No but hello!! DS is 3 weeks old (2 weeks late) induced 8lb 13 and was OP just like his sister. Very quick too and very ouch no pain relief .

Fingers crossed you get your VBAC

mawbroon · 12/02/2010 08:54

Hi carrielou. Congratulations on the birth of your DS.

Good it was quick for you, not so good about the ouch though!!

I think this baby might be OP too. I often feel legs and knees on the outside of my bump at the top. I am trying to spend time in the leaning forward position, but it's tricky with my leg in plaster, and it could be that it's just too tight in there for him to spin.

I might have another couple of weeks yet, so there could be time for him to spin...

It was all over my notes that at every appointent ds was OP and I could tell from like you say where arms and legs would kick from! When I was induced again it was noted yet on the delivery suite I was congratulated and told most ladies with big babies who are OP usually have a c section (I think they were being nice to me to make up for not giving me any pain relief )

If I were to have another baby (which I AM NOT!!!!!) I personally would want a c section and if I had had one before and recovered well I think I would prob want one. It doesn't bother me how either dd or ds got here but that they both got here safe. Guess I'm lucky I don't have a strong need to have a vag birth as I know so may women do.

What have you done to yourself to be in plaster??!! Are you any closer to deciding on which option you want to take??

mawbroon · 13/02/2010 19:28

Oh I've been in plaster since I broke my ankle on 3rd Jan. I fell out walking and broke 3 bones. I had to have surgery on 14th Jan, so really only count the recovery time from there.

As I have already been laid up for 6 weeks, I just don't want to volunteer to be laid up for another six weeks without trying for a VBAC.

Before the ankle carry on, I was really tempted just to say sod it, lets have another section, but I am looking at the bigger picture.

I am not kidding myself that it might end up in another section, but I want to at least try......
