homebirth after c section? anyone?

hello was wondering if there was anyone around who had had a homebirth after a c section? talk to me....

Haven't had one myself but have doula'd at an amazing HBAC, unplanned homebirth with local NHS midwives too!

Have you joined the Yahoo HBAC/VBAC group? I'd strongly recommend it if you haven't...lots of inspiring ladies on there.

I'm preparing for one! Am 38+5 and having prep contractions today.Hoping to stay home if all goes well. What's your story?

will do, was all set for one last time round but had breach baby due to odd shaped uterus. would like to think that if next time round all ok position wise i could go for a natural, homebirth but round here they are dead set against it!

I'm hoping for this, but as I'm not pregnant yet it's still theoretical , I'll be interested to hear whether anyone has managed to get their NHS care provider to support them or whether they're having to go independant?

I successfully got NHS midwives to support me with an HBAC last December, they were genuinely supportive, unfortunately baby did not co-operate and I transferred in for another section in the end.

V glad I tried though, nothing lost nothing gained Happy to answer any Q's if I can!

had hbac with dd, had already had vbac with ds2 no probs and was confident to go ahead with hbac. hospital dragged their heels but I just got an ace doula

I raised it at my booking in - the MW was a very experienced one who has qualified to be a supervisor of MWs but not working in that role yet, IYKWIM.

I told her about my awful first experience - crash section under GA, v traumatic, and said I would either go for an elective or HBAC with IM care, not decided yet. She was a little bit offended/disappointed? that I felt IM was the only was to go!

So got to 20 weeks scan, saw bitch consultant, who essentially refused me an elective (well it came down to 'if you come back and grovel in tears AGAIN for an hour in 4 weeks time I might book you one') I phoned the supervisor of MWs, went in and discussed things honestly - ie I know 'technically' I can insist on HBAC but I don't want one if the staff are twitchy/unsupportive. Very reassured that the MWs are proper keen, pro-normal birth etc, and they were.

I even said 'now there won't be any of that we are too short staffed, you have to come in, nonsense will there? Because I don't want a VBAC here when you are fully staffed, nevermind when you are short'

Had MW only care from then, very nice MWs, can't fault it. I transferred willingly after an informed discussion that I was, and am, very satisfied with.

Care in hospital crap as ever but hey ho...

Moaningminnie that just sounds brilliant. I'm totally ok with the idea of transferring in if there's any sign of trouble etc. I just want to stay home, hopefully use a pool and stay relaxed. It worries me that a lot of the support/lack of support seems to be how lucky or not you are when you book in. My last pregnancy I booked in at two different hospitals as I moved boroughs, and both MWs couldn't have seemed less interested or helpful. sigh. Oh well...there's a while to go.
