Question - is induction possible if previous pregnancy ended in c-section?

Probably a very daft question but the thought of being induced again after last time is the one thing making me think twice about going for another child! The induction failed (completely!) and I ended up with a c-section. Have heard that a previous section rules out an induction in following pregnancies but wondered if anyone knows where I can get reliable info on this. Thanks in advance.

Mears, Had IUGR in both pregnancies. Ist time induction took 48 hours - 3 lots of prostin and being maxed out on syntocin. Ended up having double contractions, dd1 got v. distressed (decelerations etc. because cord was round her neck) and ended up with a fairly horrible ventouse delivery. Dd1 needed a head x-ray because the bruising and swelling was so bad. 2nd induction because IUGR was becoming very bad. 3 lots of prostin over 24 hours and dilated a whopping 1.5cm. Had waters broken anyway (indescribably painful at that stage of dilation), put on syntocin and...NOTHING happened. Induction was deemed to have failed and I had to have the c-section. You can probably see why I'm fairly anxious not to put myself, my baby or my poor dh through that again.

When I write it down like that, it's easy to be very clear about what I would prefer to happen if I got pg again but I'm afraid that I might not be listened to.

I think you absolutely will be listened to. If you had another IUGR baby, you would be offered C/S I am sure. It is unlikely with your previous history of failed induction, they would go that road again. Were your babies as small as anticipated out of interest?

Yes they were, Mears. Dd2 was particularly bad - between 25th and 50th percentile at 20 week scan and on 3rd percentile at birth. She had no fat on her whatsoever, literally skin and bones. She made up for it so quickly, though! Record weight gain of nearly 600g in a fortnight! She's a bundle of energy now!
