SPOTTY BABY

Can anyone tell me if their babies suffered with facial spots - red with white centers that turn crusty? After 5 weeks of beautiful soft skin, my little girls skin suddenly broke out. I wash her face everyday with fresh cooled boiled water. i brought her to my doctor and he said said it was a bacterial infection and gave me an antibiotic for her, i did not really want to give it to her, its been nearly a week and the spots have reduced slightly, not sure if it is down to the medication or not.

My dd (now 4 months old) has had a few of these. 'What to Expect: the First Year' says that infant acne is normal and is caused by their mothers' hormones still circulating in their systems. Also, their pores are not fully developed and can harbour infections. This book recommends doing nothing other than washing the spots 2/3 times daily. I did this and it worked.

God yes! No 4 (now 1) had these from 6 weeks until about 12 weeks. My doctor wouldn't give me anything - said it was the rush of her own hormones taking over. I was mortified, and it took quite a time to go. What sped it up was a homeopathic remedy called sulphur, and i rubbed a little Savlon into her skin when it looked really bad. I'm afraid you probably just have to be patient - it will go in the end, promise!

My ds had them too, quite few on his face and some on his chest too. They lasted until about 10 weeks I think. I met a lady who had fostered hundreds of babies, and she said they always arrived at 6 weeks and they used to call them Mother-in-laws spots!! My ds's didn't go crusty though, but his skin was "rough" on his face most of the time he had them.
I do have a friend who's dd had them and they got worse and worse and dd was scratching and crying, and it turned out that dd was allergic to cow's milk, (she was breastfed, but even when her mum drank milk). So if they are causing your dd distress it might be an allergy.
My ds wasn't bothered by them, and they cleared up of their own accord. It was only me that was bothered by them! Don't worry, my ds has beautiful soft baby skin again now.
