Does anyone know if the chances of a successful VBAC increase the longer you leave it after your first CS?

Feel a bit silly asking this so soon as DS is only 9 weeks old but I would love to have another DC in the near future. I have been told to wait at least a year before becoming pregnant again but I'm wondering if this would mean another c-section.

I really want to avoid another section as it took me over 6 weeks to recover and I had three infections

So what I'm asking is, would it be best to leave it as long possible before becoming pregnant again to allow maximum healing and increase the chances of a VBAC or does it not really matter after a year or so?

Some info here for you. It looks like the scar does get stronger the longer you wait, but seems to suggest that not waiting long is not massively more risky either.

Doesn't look like it would matter after a year, if thats how long you plan to wait.

A friend of mine had an emergency C section and is pregnant again,the age gap will only be 13 months and she is going for a Vbac with support of her hospital.She is booked in for a C section at 41 weeks though as they will not induce you at her hospital.

DD is 3 years and i had emergency C section with her, i am now 9 mths pregnant and due in the next 3 wks. i am going for a VBAC but i will have to be booked in for c section at 41wks. i was told that time didn't make a huge difference, but to keep an eye on the scar and if it starts to burn or itch during labour to tell MW asap.

A friend of mine had a emergency C section with first he turned a yr in Nov and her DD was born in march, she was aloud a VBAC but DD was breech so they booked her in for another c section. she said how much better it was, very laid back and she enjoyed it. she did get an infection soon after but DS decided to start walking the day she got home so she pulled her stitches.

When you are ready get all the information about it and sit down and read it through, there are many pros and cons. but just do what feels right for you and baby

In Birth after Caesarian by Jenny Leslie it says that recent research has shown that the scar does not become stronger over time. Studies have looked at gaps of 6, 12, 18 and 24 months and the likelihood of rupture decreased very slightly with the longer gaps.
The risks are small in all cases (1 in 200)
