Aching joints postpartum

Hi, I am now 7 weeks postpartum and the lastfew weeks I have had aching fingers and ankles etc. Anyone got a clue what is going on?

It's very, very common. Especially if you bfeed.

You produce relaxin when pg which loosens everything and then for a year or so after the baby you can have sore joints, particularly hands and feet. Holding the baby exacerbates it.

Do go to the gp if you're worried but it's very common. If you do an archive search on here you'll see that many people have had the same problem.

Oh that is really reassuring thankyou, I thought I was getting arthritis or something!There is so much people do not tell you about before you have a baby!

I had this, it will get better - I am sure I was like this until ds was about 10 weeks. I don't think it's anything to worry about but if it's really painful see your GP.

And I had it with my knees until DD was about a year old - but I BF her until 9 months, it cleared up pretty soon afterwards. Was also very alarmed!

I had this really badly in my feet and ankles for about a year post birth. It was worst in the mornings. I had no idea it was common! My gp was stumped and referred me to a podiatrist who didn't know what it was either! I feel for you but rest assured it will go eventually.

Dandylioness....i did chuckle at your message as yes everything does ache too mainly form lifting, breastfeeding etc but the joint thing was really worrying and i am relieved that its relatively common but alarmed that gp's etc are not as familiar with it!
