HELLP syndrome? Any survivors?

Just wondered if anyone wanted to share their experience of HELLP syndrome. I'd never heard of it until the registrar came in and said I had it.
As I haven't had pre-eclampsia in pregnancy it was a total shock.
I spent 4 days in hospital being monitored after my DD was born. Now I'm home, the hospital has sent no info to the midwives, or to my GP and I feel that they almost don't believe me that I have had this.
Anyone else had such experience?
Anyone had HELLP and had another child? I've read that I may be told not to have another.

Just wondered if anyone else wanted to share - it's cheaper than therapy !!

Hi, have no experience myself but just had a quick search of the archives and it is a subject that has previously been discussed quit a lot, with several MNetters having been through it

Hope someone who can help will be along soon, so bumping for you

Congratulations BTW

I had a funny sort of HELLP in my first pg (I had all the symptoms, then they sort of spontaneously got better and I was left with "just" severe pre-eclampsia - everyone seemed very confused!). I was in hospital for 3 weeks before and a week after delivery being monitored. Ds was born at 34 weeks - was your dd early or did you develop it post-natally?

It can be very severe, but I was never told not to have any more children. In fact am now 34 weeks pg with dc2 and so far so good!

Maybe you could request a post-natal appt at the hospital? I had one with my consultant, which was very helpful, to discuss what happened and what effect it would have on future pregnancies. Your gp might be able to refer you. Or most hospitals offer a service where you can go through your notes with a midwife, which should give you more of an idea of what happened.

Congratulations on the birth of your dd
