I take it we are talking home birth not haemoglobin??!!

I had one with my last baby.

What would YOUR main concerns be about a home birth?

After all at the end of the day it is ultimately your decision.

Support of the m/w's in my opinion is more about what area you live in rather than ob history. I had to fight for mine even tho prev labour quick and straight forward.

liahgen · 20/05/2009 23:45

My main concern would be pain . None of above mentioned.

Not preggers yet, trying but I was with a client, (i'm a Doula) and myself and mw were passing time of day in kitchen, ( I was making tea for mw's on reception, ) and happened to mention that i'd like hb for my next one.

"ooh you'd never be allowed a hb for your fifth here she said"

I'm sure my locals will be supportive tbh, just wondered if I was likely to come up against loads of opposition.

Thanks for response. (I only know Tree is mw on here)

thing i would say is that for me personally speaking if there is a number 4 i may go into hospital. After homebirth m/w went home, in laws went home after being here to care for older kids during my 3 hour labour (not ness in hindsight as they slept thru) and there was me and baby number 3, facially congested and a bit grunty, trying to breast feed whilst her siblings bounced on the bed. Not good. Not relaxing...

liahgen · 20/05/2009 23:51

no, I can see that point. TO be honest I've always liked that bit about being in the hospital. Resting and it just being you and the baby.

Plenty of time to think, got to get pregnant first,

thanks

Basically if there is ANY reason to persaude you towards a hospital delivery, they will.

after delivery of the head i had a four min delay before the shoulders appeared. I'm sure they would use this as a reason to 'refuse' me another hb.

6inchnipples · 20/05/2009 23:56

I had hosp birth with first 2 but always home direct from labour ward, never stayed there. I might try it if there is a next time.

The pain thing not an issue for me. It hurt but it doessn't last forever and you come out the other side. Entonox is great and water too, all 3 of mine waterbirths.

Good luck ttc and with labour whatever you choose to do.

LoobyLaBoobs · 21/05/2009 00:04

liahgen totally off subject but just looked at your profile, your kids are bloody gorgeous!! gd luck ttc!

To be honest there would be concern about possible haemorrhage with 6th birth and if there has been OC in the past it is likely to recur, which usually results in induction of labout before 38 weeks due to increased risk of stillbirth.
That said, any woman can choose to deliver at home. She cannot 'not be allowed'. It is a matter of discussing the risks and deciding then.

Liaghen - you're near Maidstone aren't you? If you really like the idea go to the HB group. Also get a nice MW (my HB MW was lovely.) who is pro-HB and she will tell you honestly what she thinks.
Next meeting is June 13th 10-12 at the The Pippin.

liahgen · 21/05/2009 08:29

thanks ladies, all very helpful.

mears i think that was the issue she said would be their main concern

Thanks for that wot, might try for that . Do you go?
