Pregnant with 3rd and was discussing wanting VBAC but up against world of negative consultants who will be discussing rupture. Was talking to friends when I discovered I was the only one with 2 scars after 2 sections. Wondered if normal and whether it increases or lowers chance of rupture. Any info much appreicated!

I seem to have two scars very close to each other but def two, don't know about having a third as I stopped at 2.

I have two parallel scars. All I need is to have a zig zag tattoo to look like a Halloween pumpkin.

I'm sticking at two so I can't help on the chances of rupture question, I'm afraid.

I have two scars - I was also suprised as I thought they just cut along the old one. The new one is slightly above it and a lot longer.

I did have complications second time round and I was in surgery for three hours so maybe they needed more room to root around?

I have kind of 2 scars. It's not bad after 3 sections. I had scar tissue and bladder stuck to bowels. I lost massive amounts of blood after my 2nd one due to ruptured artery. But my 3rd was straightforward. I found rubbing bio oil into scar helps healing.

I have had two c-sections,first one emergency, second urgent! they went through the same scar!! i think perhaps it depends on the circumstances! i had no complications. i hope this helps. I am currently pregnant again so i am wondering what they will do this time too.

I've had 3 sections, 1st for failed induction, 2nd emergancy and 3rd they wouldn't let me try for vbac due to the pressure on scar and the fact that my other 2 sections were in the last 2 1/2 years. I have 1 scar and apparently when they did the last section they commented on how little scar tissue there was on my uterus which is great.

I would imagine two scars makes the area weaker and increases chance of rupture, but the chance is small and its your choice about whether you try for a vbac or not. There is a chance you may end up with an emergency section if complications arise. Recovery could be harder, it is for some not for others. Just remember that the choice is yours.

ive had 3 and have 1 small neat scar.

i do remember a lady telling me after having 3 cs and one scar she wanted another baby and her consultant adviced her to have different exit(sorry cant think of word to say but she ended with 4 dc and 2 scars!)

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 21/05/2009 22:46

2 CSs, 1 x scar

Meglet · 21/05/2009 22:48

I've had an em cs and planned cs and have one scar. No healing problems or complications first time and the surgeon said he would just go through the same scar for my second one.

SympatheticConsultant · 26/05/2009 21:49

Most times when we do a CSection we go through the same horizontal bikini-line scar. Occasionally a mother may have a vertical scar (typically if they have had their CS abroad!) in which case if they then have a CS in most units in the UK they will then have a conventional horizontal scar leaving them with an 'inverted T' scar.
If the previous scar is unsightly or has not healed well cosmetically then I would just excise the old scar at the next CS to give a single new scar. Very occasionally you might have 2 horizontal scars very close to each other which may occur where the surgeon has not been able to make his or her incision exactly through the previous scar line!

saintlydamemrsturnip · 26/05/2009 21:54

3 sections with 3 visible scars. The last consultant explained why it was being done in a different place - said he liked to go slightly higher. But tbh the first one has more or less disappeared now.

I had a trial of labour for a VBA2C. Consultant's suggestion! I agreed but asked for an early switch t c-section if non progression (DS1's labour was very long with no progression at all).

Michel Odent's book - caesarian is very good for arguing the advantages of an in labour c-section.

SympatheticConsultant · 26/05/2009 21:56

Sorry going back to the original question at the time of CS you can see where the previous skin incision is. The previous uterine incision is typiclly not discernible. As a consequence you will normally therefore have 2 scars on the uterus which has a higher risk of uterine rupture (2-3%)than a single previous CS (0.5%) and so on for the more CS's you have.

2 sections.
1 emergency
1 'planned'

1 scar, which 2yrs later is barely visible.
