Which hospital; Macclesfield or Stepping Hill?

My friend is pregnant and wondering which hospital to choose. Does anyone have any experience of these two? Also, can you recommend any good gynaecologists who work at them? Thanks.

I had all 4 of mine at Stepping Hill! It's really good IMO - they don't push intervention, encourage active births - I can't say enough good things about them TBH!
I don't live there anymore but having seen friends here who haven't had such a good experience, I can honestly say I was very lucky to have mine there! It's a foundation hospital so they have a bit more funding for their midwife led active birth centre etc.

Thank you FrankMustard. Does anyone else have any experience?

Mr Mellor at Macc is amazing!

Stepping Hill's on a new fly on the wall stule show on discovery home and health (how sad am I!) Monday at 9pm.

That should help! Good luck xx

Macclesfield was very very good imo

I haven't used either personally but my cousins experience at stepping hill put her off hospitals for life - she had her subsequent 2 at home. I don't remember all the details now and it was 11 years ago so a lot can change in that time.

I'm a Macc lass. I had a really poor experience at Macc Hospital. It was 3 nhalf yrs ago and totally down to staff shortage.

The consultants at the hospital are all lovely and the MW's from my team were lovely but it is a lottery who u get when u end up in the hospital.

Simple things went wrong for me. I had to have a spinal after nirth to go to theatre and be repaired for a bad tear, when I came back to the ward they pit baby on my breast and then left me, I had no feeling from boobs down and was flat on my back - I had been awake over 2 dyas. I pressed my buzzer so someone could come and take baby off me as she had fallen asleep - An hr later I had to scream for someone as I was scared I was going tofall asleep and smother her or drop her etc, a tea lady came and took baby from me.

have voiced my concerns to MWs this time around and they said their rate for 1 - 1 continuous care has improved.

i think I was just unlucky that it was extremely busy when I was in labour and therefore got really bad care. The MWs at the hospital were bags though too, really snappy and un helpful. The one's you get to know on your team are nice but it was 3 days into my 6 day stay that I even saw one of 'my' MW's.

Best of luck to your friend

Gillyan, that sounds familiar. I've had all three of mine at Macc and am planning to have my twins there too but have had some very interesting experiences in the post natal ward in the past. Having said that my SIL had her ds2 there by cs and had a really good experience.

bagpuss I'm having a c/s this time so hoping it will be a better experience and at least there have to be the right amount staff there before I go in!
