Did your OH get fed during your labour?

My DH wasn't given any food in either of my 2 day labours I was so glad I had packed loads of snacks etc - he ended up eating them all. My labours were quite difficult so he didn't wan't to leave me alone.

Does anyone have any experiences with this or have any suggestions of good meals that I can pack now in my hospital bag that won't need assistance from anyone at the hosp (i.e boiling water etc)
TIA

No he wasn't. To be honest, I think the NHS is stretched enough without feeding birth partners as well as all the other patients in hospital so I wouldn't expect him to be fed.

I can only think of the normal types of snacks to pack: sandwiches, crisps, fruit etc etc.

if they have a microwave you can use a pasta dish such as pasta and pesto could be good.

i would check before you lovingly prepare one though....

good luck.

No in my first he ended up sharing my sandwich
2nd time he was given toast and tea after but he was only there for last 10mins of labour!!

missorinoco · 16/05/2009 20:16

forgot to answer your initial question - tea and toast for breakfast; i sent him out for lunch dinner.

QueenFee · 16/05/2009 20:19

They wouldn't let him eat my dinner (or me even though I wanted it and it was just going in the bin so seemed a bit silly.
If they wan't to provide me with a midwife who is in the room for the whole of my labour then fine don't feed him as he could just pop down for something but as the midwifes are in and out we wern't prepared to take this risk.

I packed a virtual smorgasbord for dh in the delivery room. On the ward the food was so good and so generous dh often helped me out.

2nd time dh shared my toast the mw gave us but was out so quickly I didn't stay for meals.

ruddynorah · 16/05/2009 20:32

no. i wouldn't have expected him to be fed. he made himself a packed lunch box same as i did.

I don't know yet as I'm expecting my first - but my Dsis had her baby two weeks ago and even the MWs at the hospital recommended NOT eating the hospital food (whether you were a patient or not...) as it's awful and only the toast can be trusted.

Luckily there is a McDonalds across the road and an Indian takeaway who delivers to the hospital - as much for the staff as the patients!!

I've even got my Mum and DH on rota to bring me in sandwiches for lunches etc as I'm being induced early due to Gestational Diabetes - so it could be some time...

no, but the canteen at our local hospital is perfectly ok
