Hospital bag list

Does anyone have a handy list lying around that they could post? I think I've chucked the list from last time, and probably should get round to thinking about packing a bag rather than leaving it until running out of the door like last time!

TIA

Hello, this thread is a little old; for up-to-date recommendations, take a look at our guide to what to pack in your hospital bag.

smaller knickers for coming home - you dont want them falling down

misscreosote · 07/05/2009 19:38

Not sure about smaller knickers - I looked down last time and wondered where the baby had come from, as my tummy was still 100% there!

Ah yes, fruit, or perhaps fibregel - the one and only time in my life I've taken the stuff. Thanked the lord for it though. Thanks for reminding me of the wonders of childbirth

I had packed a nightie for labour but PJs for afterwards as I don't normally wear nighties, but I had a catheter in for 24 hours after delivery following an epidural, so had to get someone to buy me another nightie.
So maybe nighties instead of /as well as PJs.

And a pocket fan if you have one, it was sweltering on my ward.

Alrighty - have finally got round to writing my list. Anyone think I've missed anything off? I got told off last time for having too much stuff getting in the way of the midwives, so don't want to overdo it!

If you have one, a small fold up changing mat. I ended up in for 3 days with DD and she turned into some astonishing pooing machine and crapped all over one of my towels, which I suppose was better than her doing it on my bed...

Are pillows on your list? I reckon take one since the NHS will just give you one flat rubber biscuit.

misscreosote · 14/05/2009 13:05

Hee hee, yes, I remember DD's projectile poos. She was in one of those clear swingy cot trolley things (we were in for a couple of weeks), and luckily the side of the cot caught all the poo, but needed a full wash down and complete mattress/bedding/clothing change afterwards. She saved the projectile vomiting for when we got home, which was nice of her!

Definitely have pillows on the list, I think that's what took up most of my bag last time. How they expect pregnant women to sleep with one crappy 'biscuit' (good description ) i don't know - I need two just for my legs and bump alone!

Disposable knickers. God the blood is so awful to begin with, who wants to take them home.

Lansinoh cream for nipples

Hairbrush, bobble, tiny bit of makeup if that's your thing.

spiralqueen · 14/05/2009 13:56

Pack baby clothes in separate bag so when staff turn to DP for them he can just hand them over without having to hunt for them (tip given to me and worked well)

Pack bag for DP (or even better get him to do it himself) with change of clothes, washbag, money for phone/mobile, list of phone numbers he should ring, something to eat & drink (in case he can't leave you or hospital won't cater for him), book.

misscreosote · 14/05/2009 13:57

Goodness, how on earth could I forget a hairband. Doh! Thanks wishingchair.
