Recovery after caesarian..pulling sensation in stitches....

And it's bloody excruciating! Every time I stand up, bend down, roll over etc I get a very sharp tugging/tearing sensation at either end of my caesarian site. It takes my breath away and brings tears to my eyes..other than that all seems well. Has anyone else experienced this? How long did it last for? And are my stiches actually tearing?

I had this but after a laparoscopy. It lasted a few weeks, a week was early days. I dunno if it's similar in that respect to a CS. I think it was them dissolving.

Mummyfor3 · 07/05/2009 11:45

Are your stitches dissolveling ones? If yes, they can take a few weeks to dissolve and feel uncomfortable until then because they are not flexible.
If you are in a lot of discomfort, see your GP/Practice nurse and they might take them out for you.
If it is one continous suture, it can be removed v easily, and you are likely to get some relief.

I am assuming that you are otherwise well, no discharge from wound, no redness etc etc??

Me CS scar hurt about 10 days, then improved by about 6 weeks, but felt "odd" for over one year. Now, 5 years on, it feels absolutely normal.

Thanks for your replies...Yes they are disolvable ones..wound is slightly red, nothing major...I'm keeping an eye on it and wearing those v. sexy fishnet caesarian pants to let air circulate, although CS overhang covers up the wound so not sure if they're effective. I'll mention it to GP next week if there's no improvement

Yes I had this. It was just at one side so was almost as if that side had been stitched tighter than the other. It didn't last long thankfully but I had to roll out of bed for a while.

MrsHappy · 07/05/2009 14:11

I had a tight side as well. The feeling stayed after I had my stitch removed and the rest of the wound had stopped hurting. It died away over probably 3 weeks or so.

Still early days.

Are you doing too much?

LongDroopyBoobyLady · 07/05/2009 14:22

I had this and got referred to the physio who gave me a great big elastic belt to wear around my middle. Had to wear it morning, noon and night for 3 weeks. It was extremely tight but did the trick.

Never found out what was causing the pain but was made to feel that it was all in my head. I can tell you it very definitely wasn't!

AzureBlueSky · 07/05/2009 15:15

Relief to know I'm not the only one to have this..

FabulousBG...I am probably doing too much although trying not to. I'm one of those stressball new mothers waging a war on germs, constantly washing clothes, hands, sterilizing express equipment...on permanent red alert for cousins touching baby with sticky hands. All very exhausting. I'm definitely not resting enough. Add a 2 year old DS into the mix as well (although he's being angelic, I can't complain about his behaviour..but still trying to keep up with his energy!)

I'm just frustrated as I'm hobbling around hunched over and sitting and standing is such a slow, painful process. I was so looking forward to feeling 'normal', and I feel far from it..although I know it's early days.

Do try and rest as much as possible. I had real problems with my scar and part of it might have been because I was doing too much.

aoifesmama · 18/05/2009 23:21

Yes, I had this but only on one side. I remember on Day 3 DH asking if I had day 3 blues and my nearly attacking him as it was tears from the pain on one side (+ also possibly some blues I think based on my reaction!). Took about 10 days to subside. Now 5 weeks on its still the most tender part of the wound, but generally fine.

christie00 · 19/05/2009 23:16

Had exactly this sensation at both sides of the scar, kept thinking I was opening up again but it was just a 'warning' as far as I can tell - everyone kept telling me it was healing fine and it was! 'Pulling' went away after about 3-4 weeks - it's 10 weeks ago now and I feel fine BUT I second that about doing too much - germs and sticky hands are fairly normal (I also have a 2yo BTW), the human race has survived this long without antibacterial wipes on hand every second...

Poledra · 19/05/2009 23:20

I had this but had one long continuous stitch. The pulling improved sooooo much once they took the stitch out!

Be kind to yourself, OP, and take things easy - it's still very early days.
