Just wondered what your scar looks like now? Im pregnant with DC2 and my scar is like a thick purple line still and slightly raised...anyone elses like this? I thought it should be thin and silvery by now, the ends of it are. Im hoping its healed properly! Thanks for reading

Sounds as though you have a keloid scar. It is healed but unfortunately will probably remain purple looking.

It's never too late to improve the appearance of a scar. Try rubbing the scar daily with an oil rich in vitamin e, such as wheatgerm. Or even better, you could try a rosehip oil which is brilliant, and which i'm currently using on my recent cs scar called Rio Rosa. You can buy it online. If you use small, firm circular strokes for a few minutes twice a day you will see an improvement in colour, not sure how much you will flatten the scar which does sound keloid, but you will be breaking down the scar tissue with massage so should help. It really works and would also help with elasticity as your stomach grows in pregnancy. Good luck!

That sounds interesting Lotster. I have a horrible small scar elsewhere which I might use it for.

Keloids do fade tho, mine are silvery - takes longer than ordinary scars I think.

Wow thanks, im glad i posted this now! Keloid scar..right. Will definately get some rose hip or something like that to rub into my scar, thanks Lotster!

Are keloid scars common?? Why does it happen?

I had an emcs with DS1- the scar of which became keloid. It was still quite sensitive and even sore at times 16 months after the cs, as well as raised and ugly! GP referred me to a dermatologist who diagnosed it as a keloid scar and I had a course of steroid injections into the scar (sounds horrendous but wasn't actually that bad) to prevent more scar formation and allow it to heal a bit better. She also prescribed a cream (dermatis? not sure now!) that helps reduce the appearance of scars and can be bought without prescription but is very expensive. It helped it finally go from pinkish-purple to the silver white of healed scars.

I then fell pregnant with DD and ended up having another emcs. During that op they cut away a lot of the excess scar tissue from my first emcs and basically gave me a brand new scar Thankfully this time, nearly 2 years on, that scar is neat, thin and silvery like they should be! (and not sore at all).

Definitely chat to your GP or consultant as they can do something about it, it shouldn't be the way you describe after so long. Good luck!

PS. Keloid scars happen when the body goes into overdrive trying to "heal" a wound, and basically keeps producing scar tissue when it shouldn't be. If they happen to you once it makes it more likely for other scars to go that way too. I have a very minor cut on my arm that becase keloid (not really bad, but not "normal" either) which helped them work out what had happened with my emcs scar. Saying that since then other cuts haven't become keloid, so my body is just inconsistent!!

Mine is just the same as yours! Had cs nearly 3 years ago, also pg with dc2. GP confirmed it is keloid - apparently this makes it more likely that you will have adhesions internally, so might be worth mentioning to the surgeon if you need another cs.

Have tried a whole bottle of bio oil to no avail but there have been lots of helpful suggestions on here so maybe will give something else a go when dc2 has exited - doesn't seem much point at the moment when I might need another cs...

I am 31 weeks and not had any soreness around the scar, so am fairly sure it is healed well, just not prettily.
