Overdue - evening primrose oil?

Hello, I'm now four days overdue and wondering if epo has worked for anyone - if so, in what quantity? Is it safe to use? Many thanks A x

Most consider it safe to use in the last few weeks of pregnancy as a means of preparing the cervix. It is not necessarily for inducing labour but for helping the cervix soften in preparation for labour. Generally it will be suggested to take 2-4 capsules orally and you can also insert a couple vaginally and let them dissolve. If you can apply the gel directly onto your cervix, that is thought to be helpful as well. Ask your midwife about her recommendations for dosage as they will often vary from midwife to midwife.

I have been using EPO. I am 39 weeks and since 37 weeks have taking 2000 mgs orally and 2000 mgs internally every night. I have heard that it is effective to be able to rub the oil on your cervix, but I can't reach mine. Make sure you wear a pad to bed, as it leaks when you get up for a pee in the night
It isn't inducing my labour, but may well be preparing my cervix because of the prostaglandins. I have heard that sperm is a more powerful source of prostaglandins though.

annady, nothing will induce your labour apart from your body or medical intervention.

I went 15 days over with ds depsite trying sex, nipple tweaking, raspberry leaf tea, curries, castor oil, fresh pineapple and 3 sweeps.

Four days is not massively overdue, just relax it will happen when its ready
