A few contractions and a show but now all stopped - labour starting?

I am feeling really dissapointed as I definitely thought labour was underway but now everything has stopped. At about 3.00am I started getting contractions - had a few and they were about 11 mins apart. I have had a heavy discharge over the last couple of days which got heavier last night and was tinged pink with blood.

DH phoned into work as we thought everything was starting and it would be a good idea for him to look after DD while I got some sleep but now thinking maybe he should go back to work.

Do you think this means labour is starting or could it still be a few weeks away? - am due tomorrow by the way.

Am at 40+2 and am having same thing as you. Last night had contractions and blood discharge, and all today had phases of contractions (including now) but it keeps just peetering out. Its driving me crazy. I went very overdue with dd1 (40+12) so really hope this isn't going to continue for much longer... Hope things pick up for you - good luck!

This is all good news as it means your body is getting ready and doing some of the work already. You can have this for days and even a week or two before labour starts so rest and relax when you can. If you can get hold of the NCT 'birth day' DVD (poss available from nct.org.uk) at the end Davina McCall describes her first labour with three days of on off on off labour.

It is always worth checking the position of the baby (where is its back? ask your midwife or I can give you tips) as it could be your body trying to turn the baby into a better position. Help your body do this by not lying back, only sit with your hips higher than your knees, spend sometime each day on your hands and knees, listen to your body and do what ever crazy thing it wants to do eg going up or downstairs sideways.

best wishes
